A proposal on how to stop the endless CC & DB posts

Submitted by mGrowOld on

Nothing is working right now.

No matter how many negative comments are posted, no matter how many negative points are given, the CC and DB posts just keep coming.  Almost every 30 minutes it seems, somebody goes "hey....I have a really unique thought on the whole CC issue or I wonder if DB thought of this before now I better let the world know of my amazing insight" and posts a thread.  And every 31 minutes the board goes nuts, negs the hell out of the poster while the following happens.   First  MGoshirt will post a funny picture and comment on the beat down sure to follow.  And then Hackney will post his air raid thing.  And then I'll post an animated GIF of a guy beating a dead horse.   And then  somebody will say "why are you reading the thread if you don't like the topic".  And lastly a lot of negative comments will be made about the poster's thinking process.  As predictable as night.  But instead of this reaction slowing the posts down, they actually seem to be picking up steam.

So here's my idea to try and stop them.  Every day the Mods should put in the diary section the daily CC/DB scorecard.  In it would be a chart (yes charts) of the previous day's threads on CC & DB topics, the poster's name and their respective before and after point total.  Perhaps if people saw that those scores on the board every day they might...just MIGHT...ask themselves do i really want to put my new and completely original thought up before hitting save.

These are desperate times gentlemen.  If you've got a better idea please let me know so the Mods have some idea on how to stop these threads from completely burying the board under the collective weight of their posting.

If you're referring to the OP creating a separate thread on this, fine.

If you're referring to this post in general, sweet Jesus am I sick of the response every time someone tries to use the board to bring something to everyone's attention and formulate a new rule, others say "aren't you doing the same thing??"

No.  That's not the same thing.  It's lazy to suggest it is the same thing.

(again, if you're referring to a second thread the OP started, my bad).

I don't understand the obsession on this topic.  Don't click on the thread if you don't want to read it.  I get that it can be annoying but you have to accept that LOTS of people want to discuss this, it's the biggest thing surrounding our program and people want to 1) find out the latest developments and 2) discuss them.

The solution, as I already said, is simple: don't click on a topic you don't want to read.

That's just it though. Everyone DOES want to find out the latest developments. The problem is that there are NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS nor will there be any new developments until they come straight from the back of Dave Brandon's hand.

However the desire for news compels many of us to click on the CC and DB posts, only to be faced with more of the same regurgitated pablum, air-raid sirens, horse-beating gifs, etc.

Maybe posts regarding CC opinions should be labelled as such and actual news could be called out as well. CC/Opinion or CC/HolyShitActualHardNewsSupportedByLinksAndNotJustInternetRumor  perhaps?

If the Mods would send me the before and after point totals of the poster's I'd be happy to.  But unless you have access to their account info you'd have to be on the board the exact time they were posted to know their impact wouldn't you?

If there's a way to do it please let me know and I'll be happy to start posting that as a public service announcement!

Waiting on the decision is sort of waiting for a comet to come. Every night I look up to see if anything else has changed and nothing new. DB said he will wait till after the bowl game, Im just as anxious as the next person.

spirit. I only have two lingering ponderings. One they would have to click the diary. Two, they would have to think something they have to offer would not be profound and has not been repeated. I think it is only going to stop once official word comes from the athletic department. Pour a strong drink, that way maybe humor can be found.

if you drink them fast, sprint into a parked car, and then try hanging upside down on an inversion table, then you may get desired results. Or you could go to the liquor store.

Perhaps if people saw that those scores on the board

Therein lies the problem with your solution.  People do not look even two posts down before submitting to the mgoboard (did you see how many Walls to Cal posts there were today?), what makes you think they would navigagte to the diaries and read a chart before doing so?

No offense, but I think the myriad of post complaining about the CC/DB posts are just as annoying and equally pointless.

is far worse than the actual problem.

Maybe the people who are bothered by this could just nominate one of their gang to link to one thread where they put all their nukes and facepalms and hilarious critiques of the clueless boobs who post CC/DB or other topics that are deemed overdisscussed, overread, overreacted to, oversaturated, etc.

Just an idea.

OR mgoblog can have a moderated mgoboard ($$$) where subscribers can have unworthy comments filtered away...but what would you talk about then?

of the elitism on this board sometimes.  We get it, you (speaking to the board generally, not OP) don't want to discuss this topic, hell, I don't either.  But obviously lots of people do, and to act like they shouldn't be allowed to is flat out absurd.  Your opinions are no more valid then everyone elses.

I know, repeat topics, nonsensical rambling, blah blah, yes it's annoying, but guess what, life is annoying sometimes.

All such posts go there, to die a lonely and ghettoized death. Only the very bestest get plucked by the mods and B. Cook to live anew on the main board.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a few of those million-point list owner neg-bombs for posters who come up with the worst of the worst.  Those make a much better "scarlet letter" than a scoreboard, and keep the posters involved from coming up with yet another thinly-veiled attack on the current head football coach.

After all, there are only so many ways for posters to say, "I want RR gone and I touch myself every time I think of Harbaugh."
