Playoffs?! You talking about playoffs?!?
Now that we're three weeks into the season, and conference play is on the horizon, let's discuss the playoffs. Is it too early? Sure. But that hasn't stopped anyone before.
So here's the question:
Which currently undefeated teams would you like to see in the college football playoffs? Since 3 of our most hated teams are in, near, around, and next to the current top 4, which 4 would you prefer to see make the field for this years playoffs?
The 4 I would like to see make the field:
1. LSU (SEC) : LSU and Les Miles has always been one of my favorite teams to root for. Been a fan since "The Bluegrass Miracle" hail mary in 2002 against Kentucky. I love their team this year. A once in a half century RB, a stellar defense, and a crazy head coach. What's not to love?
2. Oklahoma (Big-12): Always been a fan of Bob Stoops. He's had great success at OU, has 1 championship under his belt, and it'd be nice to see him and the Sooners back in the spotlight after a rough couple years (rough for OU standards).
3. Arizona (Pac-12): Why not? (ducks and runs for cover)
4. Clemson (ACC): Another team with a dynamic offense. They are fun to watch, and the lesser of the remaining evils.
LSU vs Oklahoma in the Championship, with LSU taking it home. Yeah yeah SEC, but who cares. I'd like to see Les get another.

good for a mid-major. They went 10-3 last year and just edged out a BGSU team that hung with Tennessee and shredded Maryland. Their coach Justin Fuente will be coaching a Big 5 team next year

Clemson scored 40ish on two FCS caliber teams and then only 20 on 0-3 Louisville. Their offense is decidely NOT dynamic. We would've scored the same amount given that schedule
Ole Miss appears to be the offensive dynamo this season. 70+ points twice and then 40+ on Bama

I'd love to see Toledo make it

Ohio State, LSU, TCU, Toledo
Oh man that would be fun. I don't see anyone in the top 25 except those teams that can't easily lose two games.

Leonard Fournette is a freakish RB but he's not as rare as the OP suggests. Ricky Williams and Adrian Peterson happened in the last 20 years. Earl Campbell played in the late 70s and early 80s. And those are just the guys that fit Fournette's physical profile.
Yes, Fournette has nearly 400 yards and 6 TDs in 2 games. I don't expect him to keep this up. But if he does then he'll win the Heisman as a runaway freight train.

Michigan (undefeated in my heart)
Georgia (b/c I grew up in GA)
Utah (so we can beat them)
Kansas State (because they were my consulting client)

Michigan beats MSU, MSU beats OSU, OSU beats Michigan. 2-loss Michigan to Rose Bowl, OSU to Sugar Bowl, MSU to Peach Bowl 'cause there are FIVE undefeated teams: TCU, ND, FSU, LSU, and Arizona. Committee of course needs to leave ND out so as not to diss the Big XII again. ND, MSU and OSU all get shut out of the Final Four while Rose selects HARBAUGH and UM laughs its ass off all the way to Pasadena. Would LOVE to see Clemson in there too but they play ND and the Irish MUST get shut out of Cofopo despite being undefeated. It's only right and just.

If this were to happen, I would much rather beat OSU (after they have just beaten MSU) and lose to MSU.
Beating OSU > Beating Sparty

1.) TCU
2.) SEC Champion
3.) Florida State
4.) Big Ten Champion

LSU kind of terrifies me if they can get competent QB play. Fournette is dominate, and that defense just eats up teams. Auburn isn't a great team, but LSU just eviscerated that offense for most of the game.
September 21st, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
But that's been LSU's thing for well over a decade. Elite D, great run game, sub-par QB play. LSU would have won the national title several times with Miles if they had a better passing attack

Absolutely, but this year it does feel like Brandon Harris can give them what they need offensively from the QB position, and when you have a RB averaging over 8 ypc you'll be okay.
They do have to go to Alabama and Ole Miss, but this still feels like one of those seasons where they go 11-1 and, with the playoff, get a chance to win a title.
September 21st, 2015 at 10:26 PM ^
I haven't paid alot of attention to LSU but Jamarcus Russell was a fine QB at LSU. Good enough to go #1 overall, complete bust but it wasn't a flyer pick.

Normally, I'd like to see our conference do well in the playoffs, because I think it'll be nice to dominate the B1G when it's considered the top conference. However, I'm ok with your prediction of no B1G teams in the playoff, given the following scenario:
UM loses a close one to BYU, and drops another to NW before going undefeated in remaining conference play. They get revenge against NW in the conference championship game, but are kept out of the playoff due to their 9-3 record. They then go on to demolish a 9-3 Notre Dame in the 2016 Rose Bowl.
September 21st, 2015 at 5:57 PM ^
To be clear, I think a 11-1 and maybe even a 10-2 Michigan gets into the playoff (even over undefeated teams) with wins over OSU and MSU, which is why they would need to lose 2 more in my scenario.

2nd and 3rd ranking week - two of four were in the top four
3rd, 4th and 6th ranking week - three of four were in the top four

Clemson plays Wake Forest right before Thanksgiving - if they somehow do not Clemson before then, tradition dictates that they will Clemson this game and with it their playoff hopes if they are still intact.
If Leonard Fournette can keep thinking with portals, portals that sometimes appear inside players on defense, I could see LSU making it potentially.

1. Ohio State-Michigan State winner
2. Baylor-TCU winner (or whoever wins the round-robin with Oklahoma)
3. Notre Dame-Clemson winner
4. Winner of LSU-Ole Miss winner vs. Georgia
There's your de facto first round of the playoffs.
With Stanford, Oregon and USC all already losing, I see the Pac 12 beating each other up and possibly only one of them weakly emerging with a single (bad) loss. Lookin' at UCLA or Arizona on that one.
Here's the fun part: If ND beats Clemson and Clemson beats FSU, and ND gets the "ACC" slot in the playoff. Nice job, ACC kissing ND's behind and giving them a half-membership. I would love to see the ACC suits who are in charge of things because they're in charge of things explain that one.
September 21st, 2015 at 7:15 PM ^
Even if they get by Clemson, they still have USC and Stanford to worry about--not to mention the mighty Temple Owls.
