Phillip Sims Transferring From Bama
LINK, duder?
So long, Alabama depth!!! Now they're down to...
/looks at depth chart
Oh. Well... shit.
We don't need no stinkin' links. It's on the internet - it must be true!
Who's their backup qb now?
Philip Ely--RS freshman from the same HS that produced Tony Posada. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/01/dont_count_out_alabama_freshma.html
Their third stringer (on scholarship) isn't even on campus yet.
SO...yet another reason i's a good thing we have Greg Mattison instead of Greg Williams...
Did you mean Greg Robinson?
...but there do seem to be a lot of DC's named greg...
(to be fair, Gregg Williams has two Gs and I should remember that as a Bills fan)
but besides Mattison, Williams, Robinson (even the anagrammed version) there are:
Greg Brown (Colorado)
Greg Manusky (well, until recently fired by Chargers)
Greg Blache (retired from Redskins)
hm.
so, it's always sad when one has to explain one's obvious jokes, because that takes the humor out of it, but I was implying that, were Gregg Williams our DC, he would put a major bounty on AJ McCarron, so as to "kill the head". ..
Off-topic for answering a question? wow.
He was a Consensus three star.
(Simms was 4-5*)
said "see ya fillip." very wryly.
Ely is not good. Sims is much better.

that's not quite true, given that Sims is a year older and far more hyped. In fact, you can argue that given Ely's progression, he has more bang for the buck than Sims, who, when the starting job was still (at least theoretically up for grabs in the first game) looked um...not very good...against Kent State...you know, the drinking school with the football program.
After all, Sims & Ely shared time equally in the recent A-Day game:
http://www.southernpigskin.com/acc/view/white-beats-crimson-in-a-day-spring-game1
Although that may have been partly due to Sims having a shoulder issue:
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/04/alabama_spring_football_week_5_1.html
still, Sims played and played well, looking unhampered as he went 9-12 for 135 yards and 2 TDs.
Today, Don Kausler of the Birmingham News said in a chat, "[Ely] looks like he could develop into a Greg McElroy-type quarterback, which should be quite a compliment, but McElroy didn't start until his third year in the program.", and noted that this is just Ely's second year (though technically since he enrolled early, he's in his third spring).
A lot of interesting 'Bama info--their thoughts on Sims, etc., in that chat transcript:

Now if we can get their offensive line to transfer...or declare for the supplemental draft.
I was listening to XM 91 and I think they said a couple of WR's are leaving and that there was some chance that Dee Hart might transfer also. Also discussed here:
Jeez. That program's going nowhere.
Totally falling apart at the seams. Guys are scampering out before they can be hit with their medical schollie!
Saban "processing" players like crazy
