A few things of note in this announcement though:

  • Cancellation applies to basketball in the fall
  • Plan to give an extra year of eligibilty to athletes
  • Specifically calls out the Myocarditis health concerns

The Pac 12 cannot enforce that. The NCAA determines eligibility guidelines and I would be shocked if they said anything other than "tough luck"

There would be mass chaos and transfers if eligibility is maintained, and even more stockpiling of talent by the same three teams if they increase scholarship amount temporarily

Legitimately curious:

If we are concerned about the kids then why let them go back to school at all? Especially the high potential of outbreak which results from kids traveling on flying petri dishes from all over the country and world with no hope of restricting all of their interactions, unless we take a page out of China's play book?

But what about the possibility of myocarditis? This could also result from the seasonal flu, and certainly did result from H1N1, but I don't remember anyone running for their doomsday bunkers, as it is treatable if not allowed to fester:

What if we wait for a vaccine? There could be long term effects from vaccines as well, we are still learning about such things from H1N1:

It does not  seem as though we will have a football season, but I was impressed by what Harbaugh was doing with the program, and did believe he could lead the team through this. Issue of financial liability does seem to be the biggest factor here, nevertheless I am still confused.

So we've heard from landmark world class universities in Michigan, NW, UCLA, USC, Cal, and Stanford. Now we just need to see what decision the beautiful minds at....Arkansas and Clemson make

It’s used to think it was cyclical, but with the demographic shifts, I don’t think the south’s dominance is going anywhere.  I really am shocked that Texas and USC aren’t better just by virtue of being in the talent rich states they’re in.  Even if Alabama can go in there and pluck a few elite recruits, they should still be better.  Goes to show you what some bad coaches can do, even at blue bloods, and that Michigan is not unique.  Except for OSU, Harbaugh has us where we have been historically and pretty competitive.  We’re not a football factory/minor league team, and I’m usually fine with that except for one week in the end of November/beginning of December.
