OT - World Cup Championship: Germany v. Argentina, 2:00pm CDT, ABC/Univision
Here we go!!! The most complete team versus the team with the best (arguably) player in the world. Both teams play strong defense, and both have offensive firepower. Edge in goalkeeping goes to Germany.
Despite the aforementioned firepower, I think this will be low-scoring, with Germany prevailing 1-0.
Looks like the game may be on ESPN2 as well.
Are they still doing that simulcast crap? I take that back, I'd listen to an angry German doing color for this game any day.
God, please don't be a 0-0 final.
or any tie that then is decided by a penalty-kick shootout.
any headbutts or blatant kicks to the chest this time that would be cool also.
WTF, I was looking for the Sunday morning drinking thread.
I anticipate a great game, I don't think either side will hold back, nobody wants to fight out of an early 1-0 hole with these defenses. But I agree with the low score prediction.
This is America. We list start times in Eastern Standard Time. That CDT stuff can just get out.
More like Communist Daylight Time
When it's 2pm EST (Eastern Standard Time), it's also 2pm CDT. Only difference (as MGoBender implies and Gordon Berenson reminds us) is that while EST is American, CDT is Communist.
Wait, soccer is still going on?
A little over a month before real soccer starts. (kinda /s)
Michigan brings in the #2 recruiting class in the nation this season. I cannot wait to see what this team is going to be, and this program in about 4 years from now. I predict another trip to the College Cup.
All right already, we get it; you're a better Michigan fan than the rest of us.
Seriously, though, didn't you post this exact same thing in another thread?
Different photos but same sentiment.
i want Messi to win, so he can secure his legacy as the best player ever.
o.O
Even if Argentina wins, Messi doesn't 'secure' the argument for best Argentinian player, let alone best player evah.
Deutschland, deutschland uber alles!
Live right now on ESPN, USA leads Canada 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd in the World Cup of Softball.
The only World Cup Finals that matter are ones that include the USA---Go 'Murica!!!
Drinking game suggestion
Every time they show Jogi Low knuckle-deep in his nose, finish your drink and immediately get another one ready.
when does the game actually start? Is it 2pm central / 3pm eastern for pregame or the actual game?
It kicks off at 2:00pm CDT/3:00pm EDT.
but it is potterhead weekend on ABC family. And the HBP is on right now (best book, worst movie)...
Time to listen to the kids cry, lol
I'll leave this here...
No Di Maria, no chance for Argentina:
TEAMS - GERMANY: Neuer, Lahm, Hummels, Boateng, Höwedes, Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Müller, Kroos, Özil, Klose.
ARGENTINA: Romero, Garay, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Rojo, Mascherano, Biglia, Perez, Higuain, Messi, Lavezzi.
It doesn't get much better than Messi/Higuain, but yeah, Di Maria is a huge missing piece.
WIthout Di Maria, there is no one to get Messi/Higuain the ball in the attacking 3rd.
Hummels/Boateng may not be De Jong in locking down Messi, but Schweinsteiger/Khedira will certainly put more pressure on Argentina in the attacking third than anyone the Dutch threw their way.
If Lavezzi and Perez have nice games, this should be a barn-burner.
Edit: Di Maria may play, per ABC commentators.
As a sub, like Aguero.
Wish both were full strength: THAT would be an awesome game.
Argentina not in their iconic uniforms. Odd
Anyone treating this like the Superbowl?
Had Doner with curryworst, washed down by a liter of Weihenstephaner Wessibier for lunch.
Now drinking Hopslam with ribs on the smoker for dinner
And here come the lads!!
Does the Argentine anthem have no lyrics, like Spain's? Surprised to see no one on the team singing (and the fans seemed to be just making the same "loo" sound over and over).
Go Argentina Go
Khederia out; big loss
Go Machine!
Argentina playing the counterattack game. Allowing German possession.
Exciting times
Mayble I'll just be satisfied with the outcome: best team wins or best player. I fear, however, that it may be 0-0 with Argentina playing a limited counterattacking style.
