OT - Where Are You Going for Easter/Spring Break

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

It is a very slow time of year re: Michigan sports, and everyone seems to like our recent convo's about some personal stuff so lets push on.  Today's question is:  Where are you going for your Easter/Spring break this year?   If you are staying put, then detail a favorite spring trip you took, but no MTV house party stories (is that still a thing?), we want to be gracious to our lady Mgobloggers.

Leaving Thursday morning next week for 5 days in Vegas, betting on the NCAA Tournament. I can only dream that we run the table in the BTT and I can bet on Michigan next week!

about 10 miles west of Spring Break Ground Zero (virtually no college kids).

3 kids, always drive down with stops along the way (Mamouth Caves, Dinosaur park, zoo, etc.)

Meeting sisters family down there this year which hopefully translates into some fishing time for me.

I heard LeBron is taking his talents to South Beach for spring break. Can't confirm though because I didn't see a press conference.

For 6 years straight, my wife and I would go to Vegas for our "Spring Break"  (the first week of March Madness).  We'd get there on Sunday in time for the B1G tourney championship game and the selection show, spend a few days gambling, drinking and seeing shows, and then on Wednesday, we'd place our bets for the tourney and head back home to watch the first 2 rounds in peace and quiet.

That was then.  Now, for the 3rd year in a row, I'm just having a staycation and plan on just gorging on the finest carry-out food Ann Arbor has to offer while watching basketball from my couch.  That's what happens when you move from Arizona back to Ann Arbor and have a kid.  But heck, I'll take it.

Got time for Bed Bath and Beyond in there?  Geez, I never want to get older.  I sincerely doubt that you have more fun.  Your expectations for fun and merely, though drastically, lowered.

"Ooooohhhhh! Honey is letting me get that Town and Country I've always wanted and isn't forcing me to get the Odyssey!  Best day ever!"

This year I'm working a tackling heads up camp for the Cleveland Browns, through NFL high school player development, with my mentor, who hooked me up with this sweet opportunity. Get to enjoy the VIP amenities at the stadium for 5 days as well as some sweet travel arrangements. Favorite spring break was going with my ex girlfriend to Holden Beach, NC for 8 days. Stayed in a beautiful beach house right on the ocean, golfed Fred Couples course, and had several amazing meals.

I live in Winston Salem, NC and taking our two kids for the first time to Gatlinburg, TN. Been told it is the Redneck Riviera of the mountains, but I am sure my kids will love it. At this time of life vacations are so much more for the kids than me and my bride. Anyone who has been have any suggestions?

I've been multiple times with friends. We rent a cabin in the mountains and party. The area is more of a tourist trap. There is Dolly World and so many mini theme parks. Putt putt, laser tag, etc. On the other hand, the actual town is neat! There is an aquarium, Ripley's Believe it or Not museum, and just a bunch of cool attractions as well as good food.

Kids LOVED it.  Super kitsch-y.  We call it Frankenmuth on steroids.  (we live in frankenmuth)  I did get suckered into buying the moonshine, and then saw it for way less $$ at Meijer.  Still in the cute little mason jars.  Titanic museum was fun, too. (everything is overpriced, though)

I've been getting emails every couple of weeks for the last couple of months from the city treasurer informing me that the owner of my apartment has not paid property taxes. I keep forwarding the mail to the management company that oversees the apartment and works with the owner, and they keep telling me that it's been taken care of. However, I keep getting increasingly ominious letters in the mail. Last one said that, if the taxes aren't paid by end of March, the property will go into foreclosure. I'm not really sure what I can do about it other than start looking for other properties and hope that it gets taken care of by the management company as they've promised time and time again.

Do you have a lease? If so, sit tight, although it's not ideal to have the property go into foreclosure, your lease will remain valid. The problem is the owner may abandon the property and thus the management company may give up the contract to take care of it. And then you won't konw where to send the check.

A few years back my wife and I rented a condo north of Myrtle Beach with a group of our friends sans kids. My wife went on a walkabout and came back with a bucket full of shells. She pulled one out and said this one is kinda cool it looks like a sailboat. I took one look at it and said, I am no expert but that sure looks like a sharks tooth. It was 3" long and in perfect condition. We checked it out online and it was from a great white shark between 12-14 feet long. We were there almost a week had a good time eating calabash seafood and hangin in the bars but none of us did much swimming after that! Still have the tooth.

Boracay, Philippines

One benefit of living in Shanghai is the opportunity to hit up different spots in Asia.

Last year we watched the NCAA games on my iPad in Vietnam. This year I don't plan to watch any games.

a cool show on youtube called Ultimate Globetrotter. It's about an Ultimate player named Elliot Trotter who goes to exotic places and plays Ultimate with the locals. Episode 1 was with the Boracay Dragons. They train their butts off 365 days a year to go here (the World Championships of Beach Ultimate):

Great show, and Boracay looks like a cool place.

I've been on five international vacations since December, and tried to book a sixth this month but flights were more than I wanted to pay. Sticking around Michigan this week, which isn't so bad with this weather.

Going to the parents in Tampa. The Lego Movie marketing device has worked effectively on the five year old so we also have to spend a day at Legoland. Good point is we can skip Disney as a result which saves some significant money.
Most of our time will be spent sitting by the parents pool so it will be a nice break.

Since I live in a houseboat on Lake Lanier every day is a vacation. Will watch the game on the big screen..hopefully the weather will cooperate in Atlanta.

Thought since my daughters Spring Break was early, it wouldn't be too bad......wrong!! Crowded as ever.

If you are wanting to eat anywhere at Disney, make sure you make reservations now or u will have a choice of 4:00 or 10:00. Enjoy!

Traveling back to Michigan from Nebraska for 6 days over Easter weekend. Fly back on Friday, Spring game on Saturday, opening day in Detroit on Monday, and fly back on Wednesday after spending some time with the family. Looking forward to a much needed break from work, and some good Michigan craft beers that are way too hard to come by out here.

Costa Rica, in the Blue Zone, and visiting Mt. Arenal, the oldest active volcano in CR, along with their natural outdoor hot springs and spa (Tabacon) along the base of the volcano.
