OT: What should happen to Grayson Allen?

Submitted by Chicken22 on

In Duke's game gainst Florida State, Grayson Allen tripped Xavier Rathan-Mayes, and it looked like it was purposeful. This is the second time Allen has tripped a player this season.

When a player for Oregon State tripped a referee he recieved a four-game suspension. When Diamond Stone tackled a player, Maryland gave him a one game suspension.

But the ACC isn't giving Allen a suspension, and it doesn't seem like Duke is going to give him one either. Should he have gotten a suspension, or is it just the ACC not wanting to give him a suspension because he playes at Duke?

about 18 times on Sports Center, it never looked like a big deal.  It was a foul.  In most games, you will see 20 that are at least as flagrant.  Anyway, if you get five fouls, you foul out.  Isn't that the rule?

2 game suspension. I don't think it's that difficult to do the right thing here. It's the second time he's tripped somebody on purpose. Has probably gotten away with that kind of behavior his whole career.

Sometimes jackass behavior goes unpunished by the coach, school and conference, regardless of the sport.

When we played Wisconsin at the big house several years ago, a Badger player tried to rip Steve Breaston's leg off after being tackled on a punt return. The ESPN cameras replayed the act and Chris Spielman went off about what a disgusting play that was.

Brett Bielema, Wisconsin and the Big Ten gave him zero punishment.

Hating Duke is understandable. But crappy behavior on the field, court, etc goes unpunished everywhere more often than it should.

should happen to him. I refuse to believe the first one was on purpose he was getting up. I literally watched multiple videos of him getting up from the ground and he does the exact thing he did there. The second one is the same thing. He does tgat a lot whether it is to wipe his shoe or to stretch or whatever he does that a lot too. I believe they were an accident and its becoming such a big deal because everybody hates duke. You can hate him, but suspending him is over the top.

Coach K with a hot take!

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but you're saying Grayson Allen likes to stretch after getting beat off the ball or to prevent a fast break? Sounds like an intent to trip to me.

This is actually the third incident, not the second.  He tried to leg-whip Malcolm Brogdon as Brogdon went up for a layup.  Only, Brogdon scored and didn't fall over, so not too many people noticed.

In my mind Allen is bordering on Vontaze Burfict territory, where you want to actively root for him to get hurt before he hurts someone else.  Damn right he should've been suspended, and damn right the whole rest of the ACC has yet another bullet in the chamber of the "ACC never does anything to Duke" gun.

I say being exposed is worse than any punishment IMO. Now every game the refs and opponents and fans know he's a piece of shit and they're watching for it. He's less likely to get the benefit of the doubt for a while and that can have a big impact.

UNC held fake classes, and they haven't been punished.  What makes you think a player will get reprimanded for tripping someone?  Besides, poor Coach K needs every advantage he can get this year - no chance the ACC cares about a trip.  Just another play in the game...

Yeah, he should sit for a second offense, especially if it appears to be intentional.  But he won't.

and suspended for all of two games. This despite a history of excessive violence.

Allen should be suspended, but he is hardly the only one to get away with this. We seem to have a hard time suspendeding valuable players for gross misconduct.

We should burn his head with a blowtorch.  And Smash his face with an iron.  How about we slap him in the face with a paint can?  Or shove a nail through his foot!

I'd like to see an ACC team deal with this overrated DB NHL style.  Bring in a back up LB from the football team, put him on the roster, go out like an oldstyle NHL goon and take him out.  Either that, find someone to Gerald Henderson him!

Apparently, the extent of the entire aftermath was Krzyzewski's apologies to the FSU player and staff and a reprimand from the conference for Grayson Allen. They were even out there saying that they now consider the matter closed. It is interesting when it seems like others have been suspended for seemingly less, but then it makes it that much more a chuckle-worthy event when Duke finds its way out of the tournament early.

If you do nothing and let him get away with this garbage, the next time it happens the tripped player might retaliate and punch his smug face in. Guess who gets suspended then?

It's not that the tripping is harmful - it's provacative.  Suspend him for a game.
