OT - What does everyone do for Halloween?

Submitted by Scoman169 on October 31st, 2019 at 6:41 PM

Surprised there isn't a thread about this already, but I'm interested in what everyone does for Halloween?

I have kids young enough to trick or treat, so in driving them around.  Thankfully, they're old enough I don't have to walk with them.  The weather is brutal tonight.

Also, my wife is super creative and does some crazy pumpkin cravings.  I'll share some in the comments.  She has carved Jim Harbaugh, Jim Leyland, each of our kids, and a pumpkin with her and I on it (among others).  I'll share this year's (3) below.

Trick-or-treating with my wife and twin daughters. My older boys were old enough to go off on their own with friends, but not too old to stay at home yet. Treasuring this very brief sweet spot of life...

This year, we went down to my brother-in-law's subdivision in Dundee and did Halloween there. I was at the house serving beer for "adult trick-or-treat", of course, as my brother-in-law was the one brewing it.

We had 93 trick or treaters this year (below our average of 129 since I started keeping track in 2009 so I could buy the right amounts of candy). We only got two comments on my son's Michigan pumpkin (we live in East Lansing). One was from a family that loved it and asked if they could take their picture with it. The other made a good-natured but negative comment about it, to which I replied "Too scary for ya, eh?"

A few years back we had a kid come by dressed like Harbaugh--a well-executed costume.

Awesome carvings!  Sad to say we only one trick-or-treater this year.  My boys are teens now but I used to love dressing up and taking them around.   Hope all the parents and kids enjoyed it despite the weather.

It’s cold out, but I live in SoCal, so I just called for my oz of %28 THC to be delivered to me. In other news from Rocky-land, those kids are almost certainly getting screwed out of some of that Halloween candy . . .    ???

Braved the weather with these six for some trick or treating around the neighborhood. Wife took the littlest three home after 10ish houses... the older three and I were in it for theblong haul.

Nothing much any more.  It was such a blast when the kids were young, costumes school parties, carving pumpkins etc.  Kids older now, thankful to be able to stay in on a night like this....25 years of buying more than enough candy, which was not enough, send someone out to buy additional bags of candy. We got a high volume of trick or treaters on our street, including some who arrived in vans from other neighborhoods.  Later in the evening when the kids started looking like they were 20 we'd turn out the lights and call it a night.

Felt guilty for bowing out but there are younger parents in our neighborhood, it's their time now!

Just passing out candy. So far only 10 trick or treaters! Weather is cold, still some snow on the ground here in KS. I remember when I was younger we lived out in a rural area and my parents would take us to visit our city cousins in Dearborn Heights back in the late 60s-mid 70s on Halloween. We would get a big load of candy every year, many giant size candy bars. I wonder  how Dearborn Heights is doing now a days?

Threat of weather (rain & winds) here in NC caused our neighborhood to punt to tomorrow night.

I then was reading to my kids the text from my brother in mid-Michigan about the forecast for SNOW.

Trick or treating with my girls, their friends, my wife, and pals in the next neighborhood over, which is awesome.  Swarming with kids having fun, like a giant neighborhood party.  Weather in Seattle area was awesome for it.

Next year I'll do a Michigan pumpkin, too!

The neighborhood kids all Trick of Treat together while the dads follow along with their Yetis filled with the beverage of their choice.

Mine was Woodford Reserve.

It was cold and wet out there, but not as windy or as rainy as originally forecast, so I counted my blessings and made the best of it.
