OT - What Are (or Were) Your Spring Break Plans

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

My office is nearly deserted today with many gone on spring break to one place or another.  Nice to have a slow Monday for once, too.  I would guess many here are headed somewhere during break, whether with kids or without.

Where are you headed?

All I did was start an intense diet and started to work out. It was way cheaper than going somewhere and hopefully lasts more than a week. Just thinking long term this spreak break!

In mont tremblant skiing with family. Started in Bethesda Maryland and hauled ass to get to Syracuse to watch us play NoDak. Sucked to lose but at least I saw it. Enjoying learning how to ski with the family. And go blue dammit!

Went to Las Vegas for the week - sure enjoyed the long faces on all the Sparty fans who went there to celebrate their deep run into the tourney...........

The same thing I've done for the last 5 years for spring break - sit in my office and work, because being an adult (and, for that matter, being a lawyer) sucks.

I can tell you that you will never take a real "leave it all behind" vacation - not in today's world of "smart" phones.

My suggestion - when you do go on vacation give your phone to your wife/husband/significant other/whatever.  The deal is that they keep it, but you get to look it at every day at 3:00 in whatever time zone you practice.  This has many benefits:

 1. It keeps you from checking e-mail every 10 minutes and lets you actually get away from the practice of law for a while (which you need).

2. If you check e-mail at 3:00 you have enough time to intervene in any actual emergencies that pop-up, but its close enough to COB that it won't ruin your day.

3. Since your better-half is giving you the phone, he/she cannot get pissed that you are looking at it.  This eliminates approximately 50% of all arguments during vacation.

Ord-wpb. Rented a neat little house with a pool just north of downtown Delray. Daughter's senior trip- she is bringing a couple friends. The boy and I are playing golf every morning early.

Went to the Turks and Caicos islands with the wife.  [Kids are grown and on their own these days]  A week of hanging out on the beach, taking walks along the beach, eating good food, and having some drinks.  Hotel we stayed at had a really nice outdoor bar area along the beach.  Couches, chairs, fire pits.  Very relaxing.  Made me totally crazy for summer and hanging out at our beach house on Lake Huron.  Still have to wait a few months...Sigh.

Going to Grand Cayman for a week.  My son just turned 18 and learned their legal drinking age is 18, so the dumb-shit went and challenged me to a drinking contest....This will be like me...an old, slow footed, borderline portly, white guy challenging Usain Bolt to a foot race.  One life lesson gonna hit my kid right in the noggin.

Was in Los Angeles for a long weekend, but my spring break (that of current U of M students) was literally a month ago (started on February 26th this year).

Stuck in that horrible place of being so over being a student/classes, but, due to the fact that I'm graduating, not wanting any time to pass.

I personally don't get spring break anymore like you no good punk kids, but my fiancée is a teacher and she gets it, so I enjoy spring break vicariously through her.

Anywho, we're taking off for New Orleans next week to enjoy the French Quarter Festival and then one of my buddies from undergrad is getting married there. That and it's just an awesome city to go visit.

Spring break for me and the kids is next week. Leaving Saturday for Gatlinburg. Looking forward to some down time and relaxing in the mountains. Well, as much as you can with three boys under 6!

At home, work ,chores, the same old shit this year, taking a break from vacations, getting things done that should be done. I will live vicariously and enjoy all of the posts here. Will hit Costa Rica for the rainy season though, bliss near the equator!

Just got back from a week of skiing at Big Sky.  It was awesome, but MGoWife messed up her knee on the last day.  Now I'm in total control of walking the dogs and other household chores.  Yay!
