OT: Weather -- Any free way to instantly post a streaming web cam?

Submitted by blue95 on

I've got a big, bay window in the front of my apartment and there is a streetlight right across the street, so I'm getting great views of Snowpocalypse/Snowmageddon in Chicago.

Any way I could put up a stream from my web cam without paying or doing too much work?

across the street. I'm on an alley, so the wind isn't moving down a tunnel of buildings, it's moving in all directions, like liquid. The snow is fine, so it is acts as smoke in the wind, frequently moving upwards. And it's all colored orange. Even if I had a good still camera, it wouldn't capture what you'd see. It's gonna get mighty cold if the power goes out.

I don't remember a storm like this, with the wind speeds like this. This is ominous looking stuff. Whether your job is or isn't weather affected, it won't matter tomorrow. Most of us not living right next door to our work will be home. As a result, this will be the most followed National Signing Day to date.

I think I removed some web cam components so need to update, but I'll get something up if I can. This storm isn't going to stop for at least 12 hours.

alas, my webcam quality is shit and between that and the web feed, you couldn't see anything happening other than the outline of the tree. There's always good stuff going on out there, maybe I'll have to buy a quality digital video camera that could properly record it. BTW, Dell support is absolute shit (though I do like their computers). I couldn't find my webcam software online and had to dig around to find the install disk I got with the thing 3 years ago.

This storm is a thing of beauty.  Although, I think some of the original totals in the Ann Arbor area might have been overestimated a tad due to the dry slot working its way in.  Still should see some decent totals though.

I live just off Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and can barely see outside my window. Snow is going horizontal and my windows are shaking. This storm is great! Snow day tomorrow.

As cool as this storm already is, I want lightning.  I've never witnessed lightning during a snow storm before and I think it would look awesome having lightning flashes lighting up the sky as a tremendous amount of snow is falling.
