OT - University of Florida Frat accused of spitting on veterans, peeing on American flag
http://college.usatoday.com/2015/04/24/u-of-florida-fraternity-accused-…
not been a good year for stupidity by Frats.
$50 most of them were wearing jorts while doing so because Florida.
I've been to Michigan once and saw as many jorts there as I have in 18 years here in Florida. Also, who cares what they were wearing?

Allow me to introduce you to WD.
But I know this is from the Tebow picture so +1.
This will not end well.
... I don't usually associate frats with civil disobedience (or uncivil disobedience, as it were in this case).
UF's President's last name is Fuchs? I thought they were referring to members of the fraternity.
Please lock now...all the info needed is in the OP.
So the fraternity according to the article:
"The UF chapter, which is currently under probationary status until Dec. 19, 2015, wrote to the Warrior Beach Retreat and veterans to offer apologies and to assure those involved would face consequences."
So does that mean they will soon be on...
Who is Peter Klima and why are you paging him?
defending the frats during the up north damage incident....but I didn't really read it. I saw a TON of downvotes for old Petr.
I think these kids should be punished like the up north kids. discipline by the frats and/or restitution. no criminal record or school expulsion though. that is too far.
Theft and assault/battery are generally considered criminal, not fraternity or educational, matters.
out of it. . . Peter Klima would appreciate it.
I advocate not judging based on wealth and treating the kids like any other group of kids. the reason many want the up north kids severely punished is some form of socioeconomic insecurity. they see wealth, not justice.
Yes. I hope the kids in the up north incident get the same treatment they would if they were inner city black kids who completely trashed a hotel. Not going to happen.
you pick another group who would face extreme bias by the Gaylord crowd. why not treat them like they would so group of good old boys from a local community college? no one would even register that as news.

So they wreck a hotel and cause it to get shut down, and you think the owners first thought was "Jackpot baby let's take these rich kids' money"?
no one wanted what happened, but the locals want to punish them more because they are rich outsiders. others who don't like their socioeconomic group.
frat frat frat...can't imagine why they have negative connotations associated with them...this is almost as bad as the UC Irvine students that tried to ban the American flag from campus because it made the illegal immigrant students "feel bad". respect the flag, respect the presidency, respect america.
Civil disobedience is respect in a democracy. Assaulting other individuals is criminal, regardless of that person's previous service to the country.
Under what possible circumstances would college students, or anybody for that matter, do such things?
would be my guess.
Makes me sick
I don't see this as any politcal statement but rather a bunch of drunk idiots. I'm starting to think frats need to have a Designated Sober Monitor with them at all times to make sure they don't do stupid shit like this.
aged 18-24.
Hell I could use one every now and again.
yeah, i agree. drunk fools. if you want to see people making a political statement with the flag then check out what's going on in atlanta right now.
weapons charge.100% authentic American Idiot brilliance.
I'm not going to say where, but I was a Theta Chi when I was in college. All Theta Chi chapters have a position called Risk Management Chair, which is supposed "to make sure fraternity values and bylaws are being followed." They would oversee most parties, and even would set up a designated driver schedule for each weekend. The position was usually held by a member who didn't drink that much anyway.
The Denver Post has some slightly more detailed coverage here, which they seem to be updating - LINK
Some detail that I didn't see in the USA Today piece unless I missed it:
The fraternity said it expelled three of its members Friday, and that it had hired an independent investigator.
The fraternity has also been out there - per this article - saying they will deal with others should additional names turn up in the investigation.
At least the frat did something, unlike our good ole SAM boys who didn't.
for this behavior.
It seems like fraternities are trying to do their best recently to justify why they should be ended. I was in a frat 20 years ago, we always had a sober brother to keep members from putting on their bad-idea jeans.
what someone does to a flag.
But spitting on anybody is an engraved ass-kicking invitation.
right (for example) not to salute the flag. If you want to burn one to demonstrate your hypothetical rights. . . you're kind of an idiot, but okay. (So many real things to fight for!)
But pee on it? Really? Why go that far out of your way to enrage so many people who have so many strong feelings of love invested in it? And during an event like that, of all times?
Why nobody just walloped the crap out of those pissants is beyond me.
I think the real punishment is that those kids should be shunned, have people turn their backs on them every time they walk into a room for a couple of years. Starting with their familes, who they have let down badly.
very much like the increased media attention on police brutality, this TYPE of thing has always gone on, it's the social media or video phones bringing it to light that is the issue.
The issue is the brutality. Social media shining a light on it is a good thing.
I have to imagine something isn't being reported here.
When I read this I felt the same way. Something is missing here.

The behavior of the fraternities as reported is almost cartoonish in its shitheadedness.
Yeah, it just seems almost The Onion-like in the absurdity. But then again, inebriated idiots can surprise you.
They should be suspended for spitting on veterans. As for the flag, while I find it disgusting, there's freedom of speech in this country.
Eh, Freedom of speech doesn't mean there are no consequences for the things you say or do.
I don't believe the University of Florida can take any action aginst them for what they did to the Flag since it's a public University. Their fraternity, however, very much so can.
Fuck those guys, really.
I was in a frat for the last 2 years on college. I only joined to meet girls and get laid (which it definitely gave me access to gorgeous sorority girls) and a bunch of friends of mine in my social circle joined at the same time. By and large it was a good experience, but there were some red flags on social group-think mentality which I disliked and refused to participate in.
A lot of the "brotherhood" stuff, I saw as fake, manufactured and BS. However I was using the frat to further some areas of my social life, like girls...which it did. I finally left the frat in my final semester when the guy who managed the house (which I did not live in) embezzled the rent funds and nobody did anything about it because he was buds with the president.
The next year, after I graduated, some of them raped a girl at the house and the frat lost their chapter. This was at CMU.
I did the frat thing for a couple years and realized of the 40 guys I chaptered with, only 2-3 I would have invited to my wedding. I dropped out and played club hockey my last 2 years instead. Best decision I made in college.

So you're too elite for 38 others and only 2 were worthy of you and your wedding. Oh and you blanket generalize all people in frats as below you. You sound like a ton of fun.
Didn't say that. I just didn't align well with my particular fraternity as a whole. I didn't hate the guys I just wasn't that close with too many. Take it easy, buddy. Go slam a beer.
