So the fraternity according to the article:

"The UF chapter, which is currently under probationary status until Dec. 19, 2015, wrote to the Warrior Beach Retreat and veterans to offer apologies and to assure those involved would face consequences."

So does that mean they will soon be on...

So they wreck a hotel and cause it to get shut down, and you think the owners first thought was "Jackpot baby let's take these rich kids' money"?

frat frat frat...can't imagine why they have negative connotations associated with them...this is almost as bad as the UC Irvine students that tried to ban the American flag from campus because it made the illegal immigrant students "feel bad". respect the flag, respect the presidency, respect america.

I don't see this as any politcal statement but rather a bunch of drunk idiots. I'm starting to think frats need to have a Designated Sober Monitor with them at all times to make sure they don't do stupid shit like this.

I'm not going to say where, but I was a Theta Chi when I was in college. All Theta Chi chapters have a position called Risk Management Chair, which is supposed "to make sure fraternity values and bylaws are being followed." They would oversee most parties, and even would set up a designated driver schedule for each weekend. The position was usually held by a member who didn't drink that much anyway.

The Denver Post has some slightly more detailed coverage here, which they seem to be updating - LINK

Some detail that I didn't see in the USA Today piece unless I missed it:

The fraternity said it expelled three of its members Friday, and that it had hired an independent investigator.

The fraternity has also been out there - per this article - saying they will deal with others should additional names turn up in the investigation.

It seems like fraternities are trying to do their best recently to justify why they should be ended. I was in a frat 20 years ago, we always had a sober brother to keep members from putting on their bad-idea jeans.

right (for example) not to salute the flag. If you want to burn one to demonstrate your hypothetical rights. . . you're kind of an idiot, but okay. (So many real things to fight for!)

But pee on it? Really? Why go that far out of your way to enrage so many people who have so many strong feelings of love invested in it? And during an event like that, of all times?

Why nobody just walloped the crap out of those pissants is beyond me.

I think the real punishment is that those kids should be shunned, have people turn their backs on them every time they walk into a room for a couple of years. Starting with their familes, who they have let down badly.

very much like the increased media attention on police brutality, this TYPE of thing has always gone on, it's the social media or video phones bringing it to light that is the issue.

I was in a frat for the last 2 years on college.  I only joined to meet girls and get laid (which it definitely gave me access to gorgeous sorority girls) and a bunch of friends of mine in my social circle joined at the same time.  By and large it was a good experience, but there were some red flags on social group-think mentality which I disliked and refused to participate in.

A lot of the "brotherhood" stuff, I saw as fake, manufactured and BS.  However I was using the frat to further some areas of my social life, like girls...which it did.   I finally left the frat in my final semester when the guy who managed the house (which I did not live in) embezzled the rent funds and nobody did anything about it because he was buds with the president.

The next year, after I graduated, some of them raped a girl at the house and the frat lost their chapter.  This was at CMU.
