OT- Tigers vs Redsox open thread
1 PM ESPN2 Verlander vs Lester. The road to the World Series starts today!
LETS GO TIGERS!
Don't blame Leyland for taking JV out he was over 105 pitches on opening day, and your closer is coming off a 49-49 year, it was a no-brainer what to do. If it wasn't opening day/first month of the season than JV finishes the game, but it's only april 5th.
When it's opening day and your pitcher has tossed 105 pitches you do.
Philly took out Halladay in the same situation (a 1-0 game though) and he only had 92 pitches.
You WANT to blow up Verlander's arm?
In fact I love the guy and what he's helped bring to D but dammit, quit micromanaging shit the first damn game of the year. A 2 hit shut out by your ace with 3 batters to go. Let him beat the second doucheyest team in MLB for shit's sake.
Help me here, would it have been a better or worse decision if the Tigers were playing, say, the 12th douchiest team in the league?
Avila with two opposite-field hits in a row. That's a good sign.
Runners on first and second now, 1 out, bottom of the 9th. Santiago is due up and Boston is going to their 'pen.
FYI: Anyone that is already thinking of complaining about Leyland's decision, go look at how many pitches Roy Halladay was at today in the exact same situation (8IP, 2 H). I'll save you the trouble. He had 92 - thirteen less.
It was the right decision even though I admit I would have loved to see JV finish his gem. Let's get a run in and not sweat the small stuff.
you and Moleskyn are exactly right but, man! If Papa had saved it I wouldn't have batted an eye. Now I'm all butt hurt. I hate Boston damn near as much as the Yankees.
Haha, fair enough, I don't necessarily disagree with that sentiment.
The advantage of having a middle relief guy as our closer is he could go 5 or 6 innings right now!
The disadvantage is that these pressure situations aren't really his thing :P
Bases loaded!
Bases loaded! Ajax up, 1 out...
Dear ESPN camera crew, zoom in on the pitcher/batter. I'm not that concerned with Avila's lead at second when the game winning run is on third.
I like to post on the 2nd page (of 3) of a thread where the game is over to get points. Ahh new system?!?
So little pond...
C'mon, Austin. End this.
No way you put JV back out there with 105 pitches on April 5.
Valverde blew it, but here's hoping Tigers win it in the 9th.
Jackson is clutch! Tigers win!
Jackson is consistent this year, look out. He is the catalyst for an already potent offense.
WALKOFF WINNER AJ
Ball game! Jackson with an RBI base hit down the third-base line! Hey-oh!
Tigers Win!
AJAX! its gonna be a good year boys!
walkoff RBI single for A-Jax! Woo!
Good day for AJax.
Has to give him some confidence going forward.
Ohh well. Anyone wanna grab some fried chicken?
Great day for Jackson: 3-5, game-winning RBI, a run scored, and NO STRIKEOUTS. Keep it up, man.
Kills me how a guy can inherit a 2-0 lead, blow it, get bailed out by his Offense and HE gets the win over the guy that pitched 8 scoreless innings of 2 hit ball. Can't really score it any other way, but MAN does that not pass the smell test...
You could have a stipulation that if a pitcher allowed more runs than were earned while he was pitching that he can't get the win and it goes to the previous pitcher.
There are many crazy things about baseball, but this is one of the worst. It's an absolute atrocity.
Remains my celebrity man-crush. He looks like Tigger and he's the best pitcher in the AL. He can be our best player and our mascot! I love it.
