OT: Thursday Night James Open Thread

Submitted by BlueVoix on

Tonight we've got Miami at Pitt and, uh, South Lake at Apopka.  Yes, that is high school.

Miami at Pitt looks to be an interesting game for a variety of reasons, but I'm personally wondering if Jacory Harris goes back to his play from last year.  He looked awful last week, though Pitt hasn't looked exactly stellar either.

I like Penn State -14. It's in Happy Valley and Temple will not be able to move the ball against that D. Temple has played well but they will not cover that spread.

If not Wannstedt, the defense might. He's taking some huge hits.  This kind of validates the argument that mobile QBs can stay healthy just as well as, if not better than, traditional pocket passers.  I don't think Robinson has taken as big of a hit all season as most of the ones Sunseri is taking tonight

It amazes me that Pitt was a top-15 program at the beginning of the year.  They have maybe 2 playmakers on offense, and the defense is sound but meh.  For all of the talk about Wanstedt being a good coach, he's been profoundly average in a poor Big East.  And it's not like Miami looks like a worldbeater out there right now - Harris has not impressed.

I never understood Harris as a Heisman candidate - he threw 17 INTs last year and while his average yards per pass was pretty good - a little over 8 - he always seemed like a guy who chews up poor defenses and then struggles significantly as the defenses improve.  He can hit the long ball, but that's about it.  Plus, he's not remotely a running threat.

I don't think he has ever been a good coach, but obviously someone still thinks he is a competent coach considering he has coached two NFL teams, a somewhat-prominent college team, and has been mentioned a couple of times when other high-profile positions in the college and pro ranks open up.  I agree that this is insane for a sub-.500 pro coach and barely .500 college coach, but he just seems like a guy who will continue to get chances.
