OT: Talking Cars Tuesday
So after my thread last Monday (http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-motorhead-monday ) had fans of a band wishing we were talking a different kind of heavy metal, I thought I'd move this week's thread, change the alliteration and throw out another car topic. Last week I asked about the car that you've most wanted to own that you've seen in person. This week:
Your dream garage. What 4 cars populate it? Why?
April 14th, 2015 at 10:02 AM ^
Daily Driver: Audi RS4 Avant Manual. I can fit 4 adults, gear, 4WD for the winter, etc.
Toy #1: '69 Camaro SS 454, black with white racing stripes
Toy #2: 996 GT2 - If I'm getting a track toy, I'll get a track toy
Toy #3: Built Jeep. Not as specific in the dream, but something that'll take me off road and work for winter days when the Audi wants to stay home.

The Cayman/Boxster have always been underpowered on purporse. They are great handlers, but Porsche has to keep them from overtaking the 911.
As people below have mentioned, I'd love a CTS-V instead, but the RWD aspect would hurt me as a daily driver.
RWD is the only way to drive, you just have to get used to it.
I used to be a die hard RWD guy, until I got a newer AWD car. Infiniti has it set up to be RWD, until the rears lose traction. So it's really the best of both world. RWD for daily driving and AWD for the winter.
I do feel kind of silly burning rubber in a family sedan with the traction control turned off though.
Floor mounted Hi & Lo ranges.

Got your built Jeep right here! Made in Michigan.
That's a little big and fancy for my tastes. I liked the size of my TJ - not the LWB, and the 32" tires made midwest wheeling challenging. I'd probably go to a better 3" suspension lift, 33" tires, upgrade to D44s or a D60 rear, electronic locking axles, supercharge the straight 6 and spend way too much money on interior/soft top/hard top accessories.
Pentastar really pushes the new Jeep along. I also hav a Ram truck with the same motor backed with the 8 speed and it drives like it has a real engine. My last truck was a mid90s v8 Dodge and it was like driving a a huge block of molasses, this truck is way better, though some of that is transmission for sure.
I thought all Wranglers were built in Toledo?
Correct, the Wrangler is built in Toledo, but the upfit company on the Jeep pictured above is American Expedition Vehicles near Detroit. Their Jeeps are badass but that one will cost you north of 100 K when its all said and done.

I only need 1 car - a blue Ford F150. The rest of the white, cinder block garage is an undecorated weight room.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:09 AM ^
#1 - 1936 Cord Model 810 Convertible. One of the most beautifil cars ever built.
#2 - Tucker 48. Innovative and very rare. Also a good movie.

2009 M3 coupe, white exterior with fox red interior, 7 speed double clutch, tech package, heated seats, Harmon kardon audio.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:13 AM ^
but -1 for the porno red interior.

and then I had kids. Now both of my cars have black interiors. Hides the stains much better. And the french fries are easier to find than on beige carpet.

I wish I could convince my wife to get a minivan, we could really use the space. She won't even drive a SUV.
M3 is a great car btw. Congrats.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:26 AM ^
My wife hates minivans too. I'm babying our Passat wagon to make it last as long as possible. If we ever get a van, I'll be the one driving it I'm sure.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:31 AM ^
a hearse. She's a bit of an attention whore. I vetoed that. I think I'll probably just go out and buy some upscale euro wagon someday without telling her. Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Also, your avatar gets a +1 from me any time I see it.
/first generation
April 14th, 2015 at 11:46 AM ^
I have to respect a woman that would want to drive a hearse! If you want space, make sure you get an actual wagon. The roofline of a hatchback makes it nearly impossible to fit anything of real size in the back. I'm a little lower budget and wish Ford would bring their Mondeo wagon to the States. As far as our heritage, I wish I was closer to that culture. My dad is second generation and grew up in Buffalo but moved to Columbus for school (not that school!) and never left. I was raised with chain restaurants and shopping malls, sort of the anti-culture if you ask me.

is still over there and I have this fantasy of going back, buying a chunk of my cousin's farm, and living the simple life. She'd probably give it to me cheap too.
Also, I would like my son to marry a Polish girl. But he's only 3, so there's still time.
April 14th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
I have 5 and 2 year old daughters ;) My older girl is named Zocha so she will still have a Polish name if/when she gets married. I never even thought about her marrying a Polish guy!
for wanting him to marry a Polish girl are not acceptable in the current political climate. And really Polish would just be a bonus. Anyone that has old school values would be fine.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:49 AM ^
Audi Allroad wouldn't require that much forgiveness....
April 14th, 2015 at 12:09 PM ^
or maybe a Turbo Volvo. Something that's still fun to drive in case she hates it.
April 14th, 2015 at 12:32 PM ^
Saab is the answer you are looking for.
April 14th, 2015 at 12:35 PM ^
post GM, not so much. Also, I'm a little worried about parts being available now that they're no longer in production. On the other hand. you can get one for next to nothing now.
I own a 2006 9-3 wagon with the 2.0T. It's a blast to drive and looks sporty.
Don't worry about parts availability. Sabb Parts is still in business even though Saab died.
I'll add it to the list. I haven't driven one in about 15 years, but I see them for sale often. And for way less than you would think.
They're a steal and they run forever.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:35 AM ^
I have an unrequieted love for minivans. Yes, they are boxy, no, a swagger van doesn't really exist. But when you have a 7 and 9 yr old to cart across the country, they're gold.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:49 AM ^
My friend bought a used FedEx Sprinter Diesel van and converted the back into a camper. His family drove from Ohio to California and lived in the van off and on for a few weeks last summer. It's a really nice setup with a flat screen TV and LED interior lighting.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:39 AM ^
I was the same way until we bought our Acadia.
April 14th, 2015 at 12:06 PM ^
What are you, a Good Fella?
April 14th, 2015 at 12:08 PM ^
I've been accused of that before, mainly due to my fashion choices. Too bad I was born Polish, I probably would have made a good gangster.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:15 AM ^
It's gonna be hard to limit to 4, but I'll try.
-87-93 Mustang LX 5.0 Coupe with full road race setup. (currently building this)
-Cadillac CTS-V Wagon in white.
-Pro-touring style C-10 pickup. (the louder the better)
-2016 Mustang GT 350R. (because racecar)
I could go for days on this, but I"ll limit it to those 4 as they should serve to cover any situation that would come up for me.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:15 AM ^
2014 Bentley Continental GT. Need something to drive everyday.
\
Bugatti Veyron. Everyone needs at least one supercar.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:18 AM ^
Sure supercars are cool, but why a Veyron?
April 14th, 2015 at 10:22 AM ^
episode where Captain Slow took it past 200 mph. It's still the fastest production car ever built I think. But really, any decent Ferrari or Lamborghini would suffice.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
Technically it is the fastest, but it takes a while to get there. You'll never see top speed unless you go to their test track and good luck with that.
If I had to pick one supercar it would be the McLaren P1. Hands down.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:15 AM ^
As I actually do have a garage at all, this is a dream in other ways as well, but anyway:
1) Commuting car - that 2015 Chevrolet SS is pretty cool. 6-speed manual, 415 HP, magnetic ride suspension. I could look almost respectable showing up at meetings in it.
2) Weekend Car - 1969 Pontiac GTO. Yes, all rise for "The Judge"
3) Cool car from a movie - 1961 Ferrari GT. He knows the mileage, Ferris.
4) Car that breaks traffic laws by virtue of its own mass - 1968 Lincoln Continental Mark III. Not a looker by any means, but if you want that feeling of having an actual tank, that's a good way to go about it.
neg'd LSA for that post? cool cars, very unthreatening, not prideful. somebody needs to go to neg-bang school.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:17 AM ^
Which one:
Kit?
or
?
April 14th, 2015 at 10:17 AM ^
- Lexus RX 450H: My everyday vehicle
- Mercedes Maybach: My (extremely) fancy car
- Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet: My have fun and just drive around car
- Cadillac Escalade: My heavy lifter
Additionally, as I also said last week in the dream car thread, I'd be tempted to by a Pontiac Aztek just to say I have one, but I'd fight the urge.
April 14th, 2015 at 11:34 AM ^
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (not only a beautiful machine, but a great, albeit expensive, investment)
My 2007 Honda Accord Ex V6 (good reliable car with decent power and gas mileage and it holds its value)
Some SUV or wagon to lug the kids around in.
Ford f150 for carrying supplies for home projects, moving stuff, etc.
April 14th, 2015 at 10:18 AM ^
April 14th, 2015 at 10:19 AM ^
I'll play
2006 Ford GT - Beautiful car and just awesome power.
1966 Jaguar XKE - Beautiful car and always been my dream car
1965 Corvette "Black Rat" - Again, a really pretty car and would be fun to drive
New BMW M5 - Looks classy but can still really run
April 15th, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
add Lambo Muira SV 1972 or so. Perhaps a real Ford GT ? Do we get 5 ? Then add GTO SWB 1960-2
