OT: Talking Cars Tuesday

Submitted by JeepinBen on

So after my thread last Monday (http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-motorhead-monday ) had fans of a band wishing we were talking a different kind of heavy metal, I thought I'd move this week's thread, change the alliteration and throw out another car topic. Last week I asked about the car that you've most wanted to own that you've seen in person. This week:

Your dream garage. What 4 cars populate it? Why?

Daily Driver: Audi RS4 Avant Manual. I can fit 4 adults, gear, 4WD for the winter, etc.

Toy #1: '69 Camaro SS 454, black with white racing stripes

Toy #2: 996 GT2 - If I'm getting a track toy, I'll get a track toy

Toy #3: Built Jeep. Not as specific in the dream, but something that'll take me off road and work for winter days when the Audi wants to stay home.

I've driven an RS4. It's just ridiculously fast. Like the car can't handle how big the engine is. I drove it and a Porsche Cayman back to back (my buddy was the manager of a Porsche/Audi dealer) and it wasn't even close.

I used to be a die hard RWD guy, until I got a newer AWD car.  Infiniti has it set up to be RWD, until the rears lose traction.  So it's really the best of both world.  RWD for daily driving and AWD for the winter.

I do feel kind of silly burning rubber in a family sedan with the traction control turned off though.

That's a little big and fancy for my tastes. I liked the size of my TJ - not the LWB, and the 32" tires made midwest wheeling challenging. I'd probably go to a better 3" suspension lift, 33" tires, upgrade to D44s or a D60 rear, electronic locking axles, supercharge the straight 6 and spend way too much money on interior/soft top/hard top accessories.

Pentastar really pushes the new Jeep along.  I also hav a Ram truck with the same motor backed with the 8 speed and it drives like it has a real engine.  My last truck was a mid90s v8 Dodge  and it was like driving a a huge block of molasses, this truck is way better, though some of that is transmission for sure.

Correct, the Wrangler is built in Toledo, but the upfit company on the Jeep pictured above is American Expedition Vehicles near Detroit. Their Jeeps are badass but that one will cost you north of 100 K when its all said and done.

For me, since I just purchased my dream car yesterday!

2009 M3 coupe, white exterior with fox red interior, 7 speed double clutch, tech package, heated seats, Harmon kardon audio.

a hearse.  She's a bit of an attention whore.  I vetoed that.  I think I'll probably just go out and buy some upscale euro wagon someday without telling her.  Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Also, your avatar gets a +1 from me any time I see it.

I have to respect a woman that would want to drive a hearse! If you want space, make sure you get an actual wagon. The roofline of a hatchback makes it nearly impossible to fit anything of real size in the back. I'm a little lower budget and wish Ford would bring their Mondeo wagon to the States. As far as our heritage, I wish I was closer to that culture. My dad is second generation and grew up in Buffalo but moved to Columbus for school (not that school!) and never left. I was raised with chain restaurants and shopping malls, sort of the anti-culture if you ask me.

My friend bought a used FedEx Sprinter Diesel van and converted the back into a camper. His family drove from Ohio to California and lived in the van off and on for a few weeks last summer. It's a really nice setup with a flat screen TV and LED interior lighting.

It's gonna be hard to limit to 4, but I'll try.

-87-93 Mustang LX 5.0 Coupe with full road race setup. (currently building this)

-Cadillac CTS-V Wagon in white.

-Pro-touring style C-10 pickup. (the louder the better)

-2016 Mustang GT 350R. (because racecar)

I could go for days on this, but I"ll limit it to those 4 as they should serve to cover any situation that would come up for me.

As I actually do have a garage at all, this is a dream in other ways as well, but anyway:

1) Commuting car - that 2015 Chevrolet SS is pretty cool. 6-speed manual, 415 HP, magnetic ride suspension. I could look almost respectable showing up at meetings in it.

2) Weekend Car - 1969 Pontiac GTO. Yes, all rise for "The Judge"

3) Cool car from a movie - 1961 Ferrari GT. He knows the mileage, Ferris.

4) Car that breaks traffic laws by virtue of its own mass - 1968 Lincoln Continental Mark III. Not a looker by any means, but if you want that feeling of having an actual tank, that's a good way to go about it.

- Lexus RX 450H: My everyday vehicle

- Mercedes Maybach: My (extremely) fancy car

- Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet: My have fun and just drive around car

- Cadillac Escalade: My heavy lifter

Additionally, as I also said last week in the dream car thread, I'd be tempted to by a Pontiac Aztek just to say I have one, but I'd fight the urge.

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (not only a beautiful machine, but a great, albeit expensive, investment)

My 2007 Honda Accord Ex V6 (good reliable car with decent power and gas mileage and it holds its value)

Some SUV or wagon to lug the kids around in.

Ford f150 for carrying supplies for home projects, moving stuff, etc.

I'll play

2006 Ford GT - Beautiful car and just awesome power.

1966 Jaguar XKE - Beautiful car and always been my dream car

1965 Corvette "Black Rat" - Again, a really pretty car and would be fun to drive

New BMW M5 - Looks classy but can still really run
