OT: Should you be allowed to delete a tweet- Zach Johnson's beef with Harbs

Submitted by iawolve on

Zach Johnson, PGA Pro, Iowa City native and Hawkeye fan, took to twitter to complain (whine) about Harbaugh's recruitment of Alaric Jackson.

“I’m fed up with Khakis,Just adding uncertainly and doubt to a teenager who already made his decision. Ridiculous.”

This tweet has since been deleted, but obviously lives in some form since it is being reported by the DetNews. I am glad Harbaugh is looking to a local kid to fill a need, that makes me happy since he gave this kid options. If he flips him from Iowa, that is the way it goes. If you want to complain about getting a recruit yoinked, do it and be a man about your issue. If it is important enough to share with the internet, leave it up and don't be a whiny bitch by taking it down.

I get protecting some kid or removing some personal/damaging picture/speech, but that is different from a 39 year old man not being able to stand behind his fit of pique over a football recruit. I think it makes him look worse.

Johnson is allowed to have his opinion.  PGA players seem to grasp social media a lot more than their counterparts in other sports.  They are great at connecting with their fans and building their brands.  Obviously, Zach is building his brand in his home state.

Besides, I see all of the bitching about Harbaugh as a great indication that Harbaugh is scaring the fuck out of other schools' coaches and fanbases.

I don't even know who Zach Johnson is so I don't really care. And I watch golf. Yeah, if you say something dumb you should be able to delete your tweet.

He is a PRO golfer.  I could understand if he were a PRO discgolfer nobody cares what Pro discgolfers say. So he might even be famous in Iowa. I am suprised that Harbaugh has become such a lighning rod for criticism. I agree he (Iowa-UM fan)did seem to go over the top but does this not happen all over the country. Hell I would hate to see if Jimmy does something that actually should draw criticism, people in China will be asking who is Jim Harbaugh and why should I care when the news goes worldwide. Detroit News really? I would have thought the free press would have picked up on it or Teddy Beerstain.

should know better. He's won two majors and many other tournaments as a pro golfer including The British Open last year. It's not like he's a stranger to social media. I get that he loves Iowa, but he didn't even go there. He went to Drake. The Tweet did nothing to help him or Iowa so he deleted it. His referring to JH as "Khakis" reminds me of frustrated Penn State fans back in November at Happy Valley. They were all upset whenever Jim complained to officials regardless of whether he had a point. Stop being frustrated because our coach is better than yours. Grow up or get a better coach yourself. If you can.

Born in Iowa city and raised 20 some miles away in Cedar Rapids. So he grew up as a Hawk fan and isn't allowed to be a fan because he didn't go to school there. Riiiiight. This makes total sense.

I hate the idea that you "can't" root for a team unless you went to school there. So childish

...the negative to sports blogs and the Internet in general is the need by print newspapers to feel the need to put any little tidbit on their website as if it's news.  What some golfer says on Twitter is not news unless he's retiring, announcing a comeback, or releasing a new video in an effort to "break the Internet".

I almost wish newspapers would've doubled down on their original source of content and just stuck to print journalism.

Its absolutely awesome that Zach Johnson not only knows who Alaric is but is concerned that Harbaugh is recruiting him.

I'm going to root for Zach in every golf tournament from here on out.
