Thanks Budd for calling Michigan's games at JLA.
RIP

but the title of this should be a bit more descriptive - I had no idea who Lynch was until this - even though I've heard him many times.
That, and it's "Budd" Lynch.

I'll see if I can fix

Oh man, damn. He had a very classy, understated style that must have matched his personality. RIP, Budd.

Here's a short link if anyone cares to read up. The news appears pretty fresh. Expect more to come down as the day continues.
RIP, Budd.

He was to the Wings much what Ernie Harwell was to the Tigers.
Despite losing his right arm in WWII, he loved to play golf, and turned his Golf Classic into a big charity.

"He was to the Wings much what Ernie Harwell was to the Tigers"
That is a fantastic analogy. As someone who grew up going to games at the Olympia (got to play Score-O once when I was about 10 - did horribly) and listening to games featuring goals by the "Production Line" anchored by Crozier in the nets his voice still resides in my memory right along with Ernie's.

Truly, a very sad Day. God Bless him.

I really hope one of the veterans (Zett's, Cleary, etc) do something similar to Derek Jeter... Who has the Yankees use old Bob Sheppard recordings of him introducing Jeter, to keep Sheppard's legacy at Yankee Stadium. Would love to hear Bud's voice when that player scores/starts.

RIP Mr Lynch

He usually gave a "you're welcome" at least once during the GLI

I'm not a fan of the Wings, but I was fortunate enough to have met Mr. Lynch a couple of times and have to say that he was one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met. The world is a sadder place because of his passing.

I hope that the Red Wings put up a banner to honor his service and memory.

I'll raise a glass as a toast to you Mr. Lynch!

I'll miss you Bud!

Alex Karras only has two or three days left, and Budd Lynch dies. It's starting to look like a sad week. RIP, Mr. Lynch. One of my fondest memories is how Lynch would occasionally get laryngitis and "gut it out" anyway. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
For those interested in Karras, here's a link:

RIP . . . he was a huge part of the experience at JLA.

I was at the Joe in 2009 when they handed out the Budd Lynch bobbleheads (which I kept and have in my office) to celebrate his career, and what a career from CKLW to WWJ to PA announcer. A lifetime of service to the team.
EDIT: I didn't see this detail in the MLive story, but the Detroit News article - here - talks a little more about his experiences in the Essex Scottish Regiment, if anyone is intrigued, including being at Juno Beach on D-Day.

Loved Budd, loved that voice and indeed, love that generation which is passing away so fast. Amazing vitality for a guy of that age until the end. God bless him and his family.
