OT: Redskins and Rams trade
Washington Redskins traded three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick to St. Louis for second overall pick in a trade first reported by @JayGlazer.
Umm, cough.
Lets break this down:
Washington gets: St. Louis's 2nd over all pick this year
St. Louis gets: Washington's Next 3 1st round picks, and a 2nd rounder.
Got it. Nothing to see here, just Daniel Snyder being Daniel Snyder.
EDIT: And with the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select.

I like RGII, he's a great kid. I just think this is too much, but I understand this was the going rate to acquire the pick. The real question is, why didn't St. Louis take the cleveland deal, which was the same amount of picks, that would have probably been higher slotted?
On the other hand, the Rams are gunna be loaded with talent in the coming years. This is a team that almost made the playoffs two years ago and underachieved this past year (largely due to injury). This deal could pay huge dividends for the Rams down the road.
and a hell of a coach in Jeff Fisher with a mad "genius" at DC (minus the kill em for $ scandal)... you could very well be right.
Is James Hall still with them? Be nice to see him on a winner..
(edit: damn he still is/was and is still pretty productive for age 35 and a guy that they called a "tweener" when he came out in the NFL draft)

Go Blue.
GEEZE FUCKIN MATT MILLEN.....JUST LOOK AT THIS:

Who was that 5th round pick?...the guy who they traded for got 10+ sacks in a season with the next team. Millen.
edit: Dre Bly too...who the imbecile got nothing for...
11 players/picks to the Cowboys (and a couple of Super Bowls).
There are maybe 5 players in football I'd give what they are giving up for. To put it plainly, I don't think RGIII will be as good as Matther Stafford is and is going to be, and I wouldn't give ths up for him.
I think the only one I MIGHT give this much for is Tom Brady in his prime because he proved he can win with a bunch of nobodies, because that's what you're gonna wind up with after this deal. I probably wouldn't even do that much though. Nobody is so good that you couldn't make up for it and then some with 3 other very good players. Otherwise Peyton or Brady would win every single year.

I'd agree with this. Additionally, there is going to be a ton of pressure on RGIII to perform with minimal talent around him. This doesn't tend to lend itself to success.
I agree with the earlier poster - with the extra picks, STL could be very dangerous in the coming years...if they play their cards right. And Fisher will.
Stafford is a good benchmark, I think. I would not even give up that much for him, and he is one of a select few QBs (4, maybe 5?) to throw for 5K yards and 40+ TDs.
Have to agree in concept. But after Rodgers, I have trouble coming up with the next four.
But, teams that miss on a franchise type qb high, always go in the tank for 3-5 years. That's just if they draft him high, the Redskins are ALSO trading the farm to get the kid. So add on 2-3 more years of time in the tank if RGIII fails. And NFL history tells us that there is a pretty damn good chance he fails. It's rare that two QB's drafted so high, and back to back, both end up both being great.
You have to trust your football people, but you also have to understand the economics of the game. This has NEVER worked in NFL history, and it won't work now.
It's easy to say he's no Ryan Leaf after Ryan Leaf became one of the biggest draft busts ever but back in the day a lot of experts couldn't decide who would be a better pro between Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf.

that looks like a stretch.

This times a hundred. I'm sick of people saying they are giving up three first rounders, they are swapping and giving up two.
Reminds me a little of the Dallas Cowboys - Minnesota Vikings Herschel Walker trade.
Who do you guys think the Rams are going to take with the 1st AND 2nd overall picks in next years draft?
Russell Bellomy becomes starting QB for Michigan.
they could be in position to trade down again since Barkley, Tyler Wilson or other breakout qb du jour could be in demand and they already got Bradford.
They have no weapons at WR and Jason Smith (OT from Baylor in 09) looks like a bust
Maybe DJ Fluker or Seantral Hendreson at OT
Robert Woods at WR
surrounding talent.
Worth it for the Skins if Griffin becomes a star. One of the worst trades ever if he doesn't.
Nonetheless, its seems doubtful any other team (say Cleveland) was offering anything near this much compensation.
The Rams did GREAT to act before the Manning and Flynn signings which could have eliminated two suitors and most of their leverage.
WOW so many angles to this deal its crazy
I have a simple question: how many players currently playing are worth three firsts and a second? I feel like the list is like Aaron Rodgers. And maybe Jake Long. But it can basically only be youngish QBs, LTs, and DEs, right?

I'm a Redskin fan and I am happy. I do not care if there is a chance RG3 is a bust. I do not care if they overpaid to get him. I just want a damn QB and we are getting one!
What do the redskins have to lose? Are they going to have more losing seasons? Ya I'll take the chance...

Denard Robinson. That is all.
WOW. Both sides win if RGIII is a super-star. If he's anything less than a superbowl-winning pro-bowler, the Redskins lost. Nice work by the Rams to find value.
Rams make out like a champ! And they w still get Blackmon at #6 IMO
So the Rams move down four spots, probably will still get the guy they want, and get two more odds on high first rounders from the Skins. All for a guy I think is a system QB? Who else but Snyder?
The Jets extended Mark Sanchez 3 years for 40 million dollars. Word is he let Rex Ryan shoot a foot fetish video with his girlfriend Kate Upton. This would be the only explanation since Sanchez is what I would classify as "not good"
So Im Guessing RGIII Is going to play QB, RB, and Defense for the Redskins? This has to be the craziest draft ever... I've never seen so much acclaim over two kids we haven't even seen throw the ball in front of scouts...
Mind you these same scouts thought Brady Quinn was a potential Number 1 overall...
I hope Griffin and Luck don't bust but if they Do the Redskins and Colts Respectively won't bounce back
RGIII can't throw it to himself.
(Actually, maybe he can and will have to. It still won't be enough.)
I was eight years old and got taken
MFW the Redskins traded up
Redskins fanbase general reaction when the Redskins traded up
NFL fan reaction when the Redskins traded up
Right now, I'd lean towards him being a bust, mainly because the Shanahans have not exactly been QB gurus during their time here. This is the braintrust which traded for Donovan McNabb, and thought John Beck was a legitimate starter. In addition, the Redskins are not exactly surrounded by talent offensively. The OL is mediocre and could use a lot of improvement. The WR's aren't that good, and the Redskins RB's are good young prospects.
My main concern with Griffin is whether Shanahan can actually train him to be legitimate; and again, Shanahan has done a pretty poor job of training QB's here. None of them had the alleged talent of Griffin though. If Griffin works out, it'll be huge for the city of DC, which has been starved for stability at the QB position for years. If it doesn't, it's a horrible trade which sets the franchise back and costs Shanahan his job.
What directiion do the Browns go now? IMO they have to go "best available" as they have holes literally everywhere. I would prefer they resign Hillis and go D with Claiborne as they need defensive playmakers. I wouldnt even mind them trading down to the middle of the round as I don't think Blackmon warrants the #4 pick and wideout is their glaring need behind QB.
Maybe with the picks we just saved we go sign Wynn and load up on D in the draft. I do agree with other posters that i would not have mortgaged the future like the skins did to get him.
