OT: Pistons release new jersey
So the Pistons unveiled their new "alternate" jersey today. Pretty boring if you ask me. Maybe the Pistons would be a great candidate for UNIFORMZ?

It's decent, but I'd like it more if it said STONES on the front.

These are sweet. I love "Motor City" on the uni, without changing what's a great, basic color scheme. Nice work.

Nice. Way better than "El Heat".

The whole "El Heat," "Los Lakers," etc, is about the most half-assed attempt at marketing ever. Yeah, if I'm a Hispanic dude and not interested in basketball, I'm totally going to change my mind because they added the word "the" in Spanish on the jerseys.

Here's some of the rationale right from Dennis Mannion, the CEO of Palace Sports:
“We are pleased to unveil our new Motor City uniforms and display our pride in the metro Detroit community,” said Dennis Mannion, CEO of Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Detroit Pistons. “When you say Motor City – no matter where you are in the world – everyone knows you are talking about Detroit. We are proud to represent Detroit and hope these uniforms will serve as a source of pride for our fans and this region.”
I rather like them myself. The piping and general look are sort of reminsicent of the 2012 USA basketball uniforms, I think.

Seems kind of like a throw back idea when teams used to do things like this back in the ABA days or whatever. I like it. Don't mind the darker blue (a darker blue is always nice IMO). Not bad for an alt jersey, especially seeing as it still actually looks like a Pistons jersey, it's not an alternative jersey that looks like it belongs to a different team.

If only it had some teal...

Stole my thunder... :) Like it a lot.
August 14th, 2013 at 1:56 PM ^
Not that bad.
Remember the light blue/green (teal) ones with the horse in the logo when Grant Hill was here?

those next to Hoffa

But not as cool as the "rust" alternates!

Hooper to you! (The horse's name, that is)

Damn that's dope! The "motor city" is what does it. Glad the colors/ piping are understated.

It's only a matter of time before the red becomes maize.

I was kind of "meh" when I saw it in the photo above, but it looks better when worn:

Bit recursive? Changed the number color at least.

Atlanta is the copycats - they abandoned their own tradition to rip off the Pistons' colors.
The Hawks need to go back to their Dominique Wilkins uniforms, with the awesome Pac-Man logo.

Auburn Hills is also nicknamed the motor city? Who'd a known.

These are real classy. How an alternate uni should be if you ask me.
August 14th, 2013 at 2:41 PM ^
I prefer the baggy, old school wife-beater jerseys, ala the Fab Five.
August 14th, 2013 at 2:44 PM ^
"Hockey Town" would have been better.

Moderate: Funny
I'm in the 'I like it' camp.

And I really wish this "alternate uniform" nonsense would die already. Alternate for what? In case their normal uniforms are at the cleanors? Or it's casual friday? Maybe because they clash witht the opposing teams colors?
Call me old-fashioned but "away" jerseys are alternate enough for me.

As an old man (42) hater of uniformz in college, I really couldn't care less about the pros doing it. Pro-teams don't typically have the 100+ year tradition of college teams like Michigan. (Admittedly, older MLB teams and original 6 NHL franchises do.) College, however, is different and tradition is a much bigger part of the team’s identity.
Pro franchises are also, by definition, money making enterprises and the players are in on the deal. The whole purpose of the alternate uniform is to sell jerseys. In the pros, it is just a business finding another product to market. To me, it is very different when the Athletic Department cranks out uniformz like hotcakes to find another (and another, and another) way to make money off of a number 16 jersey while Denard is told that he can't have jelly on his bagel. Uniformz in college are just another way that the NCAA is trying to act like a professional league without cutting the players in on the deal.
As already noted in other comments, the NBA, NHL and MLB play tons of games. Changing it up every now and again isn't the same as Michigan wearing uniformz for 30% of its games.
I actually liked the black Lions jerseys of a few years ago. I also don't recall any outcry about the Wings wearing throw-backs for the Winter Classic a few years ago. (I also think the Wings could do a black jersey like their practice unis.) While I always appreciated that the Tigers don't have an alternative jersey like a lot of teams, I wouldn't go nuts if they broke one out. It would just be more revenue that Mr. I can use to sign more players.
Just one man's opinion.

Heard about these from Piston Powered. Really cool. Nice to see an alt jersey that doesn't suck and actually adds something.
Hopefully they do more of this sort of thing. The Pistons have a lot of awesome old unis.

Guess I'm just a youngster who doesn't "get it" when it comes to ALTERNATES.

The Pistons have been routinely changing their uniforms for decades.
Michigan football? Not so much.
The two issues are apples and oranges, and not just for this one reason.
August 14th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
I'd buy one.
August 14th, 2013 at 9:27 PM ^
I like them

The design is really bland, and the jersey template the Pistons use (particularly the collar) looks silly, but as a concept, I like it. It's the NBA. It could be a lot worse.
