The Spartans 65,000 square foot facility is currently under construction and will be named the Tom Izzo Football Building.

A look inside Michigan State’s $78 million Tom Izzo Football Building ...

To me, it says something humorous about the rich football tradition that the building is named after an active basketball coach.  At any rate, I thought it was worthy of some off-season mocking.

The link includes a video walkthrough.

One of the bragging points is the "electrified glass" technology.  According to director of player relations and program advancement Darien Harris,

"So the glass is gonna light up, illuminate," Harris said. "It's going to be like 'Iron Man.' So you're gonna be able to have an opportunity to actually, virtually suit up and really visualize yourself as a Michigan State Spartan, as a Spartan Dawg."

I look forward to your comments.

You know those gas fireplaces you can turn on with a click of a button and poof: FIRE?

I heard they have a couch that does that in the new building.

If you had told MSU fans in 2015 that their future football facility would not be named after Mark Dantonio but instead would be named after an MSU basketball coach, they'd have shit themselves in laughter.

Dantonio must have really pissed off some important people at MSU. Maybe it's due to Dantonio's delayed announcement of his retirement, which allowed him to garner a sizeable chunk of $$.

While I revel in the East Lansing tom foolery, I am appalled by the incompetence of the MSU Athletic Department that they couldn't negotiate settlement that worked for everyone during the sunset of the Dantonio era.  I guess they were short a leader at the time but that ending was one of the train wrecks of all dumbster couch fires.

They cannot even name it for anything related for football.

It warms my maize and blue heart to know that Sparty is on the hook for $95M to Mel Tucker,, which is more than the cost of the football facility. What a dumb ass contract, They can proceed choking on it.

"We've had some decent football coaches, we should name it after one of them."

"Nah, let's name it after the basketball coach!"

This is the most Sparty thing Sparty could do...

Michigan has buildings named after Yost and Crisler. To me, this is no different.

Edit: ^^^^^ I'm stupid, this comment is bad, and I feel bad. I had a brain fart.

Another upgrade, the 64 pack!

The electrified Glass is a key feature.  It allows MSU to control the amount of transparency.  They can even cover stuff up.

This makes zero sense. Although I never thought Dantini’s “retirement” was entirely voluntary. If it was all about the bonus how come he didn’t retire in mid January when he received the money?  I find it very interesting that about two weeks after Dantini had finally been forced to answer questions under oath in the Curtis Blackwell wrongful termination lawsuit he all of the sudden decides to “retire.”

Reminder:  this is the same school that only 2 years ago claimed they didn't have enough money to pay sexual assault survivors.  Now they have $78M to blow on a vanity project
