OT: My HTTV personalized autograph fail or why Brian Cook follows instructions better than I do (unfortunately)

Submitted by mGrowOld on

LIke many of you when our fearless leader asked for financial support to get this year's edition of HTTV off the ground I was happy to help.  And at some point during the many emails I traded with the good folks at Underground Press I was asked (allegedly) to provide the verbiage I wished Brian to inscribe my book with when he autographed my copy. Unfortunately I thought I was being asked to provide a pithy little sentence or two that would actually appear in the magazine itself so I worded my response accordingly.

So yesterday my copy finally arrived (thank you Lacey at Underground Press for chasing it down for me) and after reading the Blockhams cartoon (I skim back to front when I get a new book for some reason) I noticed that I didn't exactly give Brian the best autograph wording but to his credit he wrote exactly what I requested as this is on the inside front cover of my copy and then added a little editorial comment for posterity:

MGrowold wishes all his friends on MGoBlog a great 2012 season.  See you in Dallas AND Ann Arbor.

Brian Cook

PS: Did you enter this right?

As if HTTV wasn't already excellent, that plus an autograph with a postscript questioning the wording makes your copy a blog classic.

You could even reply to it in next year's edition with a large enough donation, I sure  - "To answer Brian's question, apparently not."

It really didn't matter much to me, but I was also curious what he would do. Typically, he didn't disappoint:

Anthony Carter!

followed by Brian's name. I keep hoping AC doesn't show up at the door looking for his magazine.

I was thinking about starting a thread to see how everyone else's copies arrived. I just got mine yesterday and neither were personalized as requested and I was left off the sponsor list in the mag. Both are bent and dog-eared, so I can't frame them. I will enjoy reading, but am very disappointed.

You should send an email to the address given in the email Brian sent out last week.  I hadn't received mine either so I emailed and they promptly responded, informing me that it was on its way.  Sho nuff, they arrived last week with my special request T-shirt.

I think that a few minor changes might solve some issues.

1. A lighter cover and page stock would make it lighter and more pliable.

2. Saddle-stitch and trim binding would be less likely to "break."

3. Steps 1 & 2 would save on mailing costs and increase mailing durability.

4. USPS bulk mail may be less expensive and gentler than media-mail.

We moved to Shanghai since I ordered so I had mine shipped to my 75 year old parents.  My Dad called and told me there was a problem and wanted to know what he should do.  Several bad things went through my head and then he said. "There is a problem with the shirt.  I can't tell what some idiot put on the shirt but it looks like some sick joke."

I explained to him the best I could and then asked him to wear it for me this season since I can't make it back and he is going to a couple of games with my tickets.  There is no way he'll wear it but I can probably talk Moms into it,
