OT: Michigan State trustees ask for board chair’s “removal” amid bullying, ethics and self-dealing allegations

When it rains it pours in East Lansing. Since this published, another trustee and the faculty chair also want the board chair removed. And now Gov. Whitmer is involved. This is nuts and well worth the read:

University sold its soul for a decade of relevance in college football. This is what happens when you attempt to punch above your weight class.

Now its irrelevance + complete humiliation and dysfunction for lil bro. Spartans Will!

Back to mid regional meh program (at best) as the B1G expands to bigger and better things and brands with new West Coast additions.

Universe correcting itself, Mean reversion, etc, etc

LOL, Sparty No!

I'm loving every minute of it.  D'antigiorneghettio's Legacy.

It is a gift that keeps on giving. Reporting this morning that the chairwoman threw a party this past Friday for donors at the president’s on-campus house. But the president was not allowed to attend? The president lives there!

Vassar planned donor dinner at president’s house but didn’t include her

Scott also criticizes Vassar for “victim-blaming and minimizing of trauma” when texting about Tracy with former trustee Pat O’Keefe last month.

Vassar placed a heart reaction on a text from O’Keefe explaining how he thought Tracy could best be discredited, according to a copy of the messages obtained by The State News.

The new MSU looks a lot like the old MSU...

Don't know if you had a chance to read in depth, the text messages between Tracy and her bestie but it does look like she had nefarious motives to begin (IJS) Not to support victim blaming or minimizing trauma but if what was released is true, Tracy wasn't honest about the consensual nature of their relationship, among other things.

If you haven't read them, it's a good read and adds some perspective. Sparty might have rushed to judgement because they weren't happy with Tucks on-field performance as measured by his pay and they wanted to find any way to get out of that contract. Anxious to see how this plays out.

All this sparty drama is happening at the perfect time when they need to hire a new President and Head Coach. Hitler, assaults, phone sex, board issues, horrible roster, etc has to be very appealing for potential candidates. Oh yeah, and a delusional fanbase who is letting everyone know that the only coach they will be satisfied with is Urban Meyer.

OK:

1. MSU is likely to have to pay Mel most of the $80 million on the contract.
2. The rich alumni contributed about $20 million of the $95 million total owed.
3. That means the University is stuck with upwards of $70 million in exposure.
4. The big money donors have headed for the hills (see: Ishbia, Matt)
5. The BoT is hopelessly dysfunctional.
6. They do not have a President and it is unknown who that might be.
7. The AD is in over his head.
8. The new football building is named after the basketball coach.

In short, who on earth wants to be coach there? They will be lucky to get a middling MAC coach.

Top 25 program? My ass...

One of the most fascinating things about fandom when all is not well is that, when you have scenarios like this sort of infighting and controversy among university leadership, when you have a football culture that is in a dire state with lawsuits from your disgraced former coach incoming, and when you are so fast asleep that Hitler ends up on the scoreboard, your fans are willing to bankrupt the University to send Urban Meyer into Thunderdome.

The Chair is supposed to let his/her Board conduct its business of governing via consensus and/or compromise, always keeping the best interests of the institution in mind. Vassar's ego seems to drive her to disregard everything except her own wishes. MSU will never turn their ship around until they at least get their Board working well together.

I feel sorry for MSU at this point.

Yes, tire fire seems does like the right image...

The abyss that MSU has found is no longer worth gloating over.  The depth of dysfunction is hurting the reputation of the state, its residents, and its affiliated institutions.  The issues that need to be addressed go well beyond a rivalry, and we would all be better off if they are fixed.  It's time for Gretch to fix her damn alma mater.

100%.  They've taken about a half-dozen wrong turns, and the Gov. needs to blow it all up, and use whatever power she has to put entirely new leadership in place.  MSU probably college educates more Michiganders than any other school, and while I don't mind seeing them slip on the football field, this has all gotten way out of hand.

This is a LONG overdue change.

The turmoil of ousting the Board Chair is super embarrassing and a bad look for the university, but it would be FAR worse to not make a change.

I don’t doubt that MSU will find a way to fuck this up, but 1) if there’s multiple shitshows already, why not add one thing to the pile?, and 2) if you’re looking at rock bottom, cleaning house isn’t a bad idea

I fully support the Trustee and Faculty Chair who are in open revolt here. We sometimes forget that the MSU AD and the MSU student body are not the same. As much as the football program lit themselves on fire, the Board is fucking over the entire institution.

There must be something wrong with me and my vocabulary.   All this time I was thinking - you can't spell dysfunction without MSU...   The letters don't seem to fit, but - the description does.
