OT Michigan Panthers win; QB sets completion pct. record

The Panthers beat the Houston Gamblers today 29-13. Michigan was helped by 4 Houston turnovers, but the big story was Panthers QB Josh Love completing 19 of 21 pass attempts for 216 yards and 3TDs.

Love's 90.5% completion percentage beat the USFL record (including the original 2 years) by about 7 percentage points.

Might be worth a trip down to Ford Field to catch a game. Tickets are cheap enough....

I haven’t watched either the USFL or XFL games yet. Is their any difference in the quality of players/games between the two leagues?

I think a couple of the XFL QBs are probably a cut above anyone in the USFL. But thats about it.  There aren’t 32 good starting-quality QB in the entire country, let alone enuf for another 16 minor league teams too. These are very generic games between two so-so Power 5 or two good Group of 5 colleges with a sprinkle of “oh yeah, I remember him” names.

These leagues seem destined to merge bc in my mind they are indistinguishable anyway.

It would be absolutely fucking hilarious if the Panthers won the championship again 40 years after their first one, while the Lions are still trying to figure things out.

I actually went to a few Panthers games in '83, including the semi final playoff game against the Oakland Invaders. The silverdome was packed.

We were watching the game, and talking about going to watch the Panthers at Ford Field. Might be fun, and tickets are certainly a lot cheaper. Yeah, it might be football's minor-leagues, but that's never stopped me from driving to Toledo and catching the Mud Hens.

And Josh Love turned in a great performance. Many of his 19 completions were right on the money - the receiver didn't have to make a heroic effort to make the catch, because the ball was right there. The kid looked damn good.
