Well, it wouldn't be 2020 without the death of America's favorite girl next door:

RIP, Mary Ann. It was the greatest 3-hour tour.

(Though, admittedly, I was a Ginger fan myself.)

As I recall, about twenty years ago there was a CBS special called "Surviving Gilligan's Island", and at some point in that program, they actually did poll the audience regarding this, and it was Mary Ann by an extremely narrow margin - I think it was just a few votes, in fact.

Ch. 50 had a great lineup in the late 60s and 70s. I still remember watching the banana splits, speed racer and kimba the white lion. I thought ultra man was bit goofy, even as a kid. Then there was Bill Kennedy at the movies, followed by all those 60s sitcom reruns. In fact the Beverly Hillbillies and Brady Bunch were still on television when ch.50 was showing their reruns from the 60s into the early 70s.

Plus, reportadly Tina Louise was a total bitch on set who thought of herself as a Shakespearean level Actress and always thought the role was beneath her.

Everyone was ready to go for season 4 and she plainly just didn't show up and that's why the show ended, I wish they would have just replaced her with some other red-headed hottie so that  I would have had more reruns to watch after school.

RIP Dawn Wells.

Goddamnit. Fuck this year beyond any years. I can't even break down and look at a list of everyone who has passed away this year because I know I'm just going to get so fucking depressed at the all-time classic and classy people on it. Just cracked a beer at work so might as well drink my way to forget.

There was a poll done a decade to two ago, and Mary Ann won in quite a landslide.  I for one think it should be a landslide - i don't think their even is a debate.  Mary Ann is 10 times more attractive.

She was also by far the wealthiest of the cast because of the contract she had drawn up for getting part of all reruns after the show was over.

I was a wee bit too young to have watched Gilligan's Island and had better things to watch in syndication, but it's nearly impossible to not have grown up in the American burbs and not commited the theme song to memory.  I hope her closing days as were free of suffering as COVID sufferers can manage, and that she had a happy and full life.  It's just heartbreaking to think about not being able to have loved ones nearby when at death's door.

(FWIW, while I have zero horse in Ginger vs. Mary Ann, a quick Wiki dive reveals that Ginger's actress went to college in Ohio (at NTM), so that should settle that debate here at least)

I was always a Mary Ann guy but as I got older I could see the Ginger side. Long legs, curvy, all woman, not girl next door. I now think they were ingeniously created to appeal to different parts of the American male psyche. And for a 12 year old in the 70s without access to free internet porn, equally frustratingly unattainable.
