Super Bowl or bust.
Every delusional Lions fan ever (yes, I know using "delusional" and "Lions fan" together is redundant).

Can somebody please tell me if Marvin Jones is worth it? I don't know whether to be ecstatic or pissed.
Signed,
Confused Lions Fan
Addendum: I was slightly happy when we signed Golden Tate. That deal, in hindsight, was pure gold and I should have been wildly enthusiastic when we signed him. But I'm a jaded Lions fan who has a difficult time feeling happy about player signings and draft picks.
Overall you should be happy now we won't be wasting a draft pick on a shit hole draft class. If Ebron keeps improving and one other WR emerges Jones or Fuller well still have fire power we just need guys to block for Stafford

you said he's a good number 2.
{{Insert childish giggles here}}
This was exactly my gut reaction. The Jones signing - as long as it's not financially crippling - alleviates the need to reach for a WR in round 1 of the draft this eyar. I also agree that Ebron is the wild card in this entire scenario. We need him to become a legit receiving threat to reduce pressure on the WR's.

He reminds me of Roy Williams when he would celebrate a first down losing by 20. If he would buckle down and focus mentally, he could be an elite TE or at least an elite receiving TE.
to sign other guys. The Lions have one of the weakest schedules next year; we pick up some more good pieces and it might be a happy year for us. Us Lion fans, that is.
Knowing the Lions I had expected them to sign Marvin "Bad News" Barnes.
Welp that's Megatron replaced.
It's like trying to plug holes in Swiss Cheese............
Half the price of Calvin, 70% the skill... maybe we can get some more guys with the remaining Calvin money.
half the price of Calvin...Calvin would have been $24 million this year...craziness!
Not real familiar with the guy, but if he's 70% of Calvin at 1/3 the cost...I'll take it.
He can be a good #2 or #3 for the Lions, and complements Tate well. They still don't have a true #1 in my mind, but both Tate and Jones have stepped up at times to be their teams #1 for short periods with the other guy injured, so as a tandem they are solid. I think this is a good pick up for the price.
Physically, Stafford has the tools to win with a group of #2 and #3 receivers. It's all about the game from the neck up.
I admit it's a terrible comparison, but Brady and Rodgers have won without a true #1 receiving talent.
That was a huge issue last year for the Lions. It's one thing to be a good enough QB to get it done when the defense has to respect the run, but it's incredibly difficult to be successful when they don't (ask Tom Brady).
They got back $11M when CJ retired, so now they have the best WR available in FA this year without spending anything. Nor do they have to wait for a rookie to develop. And they still have $3M left for another upgrade somewhere. If I'm Quinn - and had to lose CJ, I'm happy with this signing...
He seems like a solid No. 2. The group as a whole looks good for the Lions, but there isn't a true No. 1 on the team. However, that can be said about many NFL teams.
number 2 is always nice.
I've been skeptical of signing former #2's who play next to elite #1's, but Marvin Jones is as good as it gets for a replacement this year. IIRC, there's not much upper-end WR talent available in the draft.
If his foot has healed, I might take a look at Brandon LaFell. He's only a year off his peak season in 2014.
Like others, I have some reservations that Jones would be the complete answer to the void that Johnson leaves, but at least with Jones and Tate, you have at minimum a decent 2 /3 WR set right there. I don't think that Marvin Jones is someone who would standout as a #1 WR, but if we're going to rotate them and press forward without a #1 then he's not a bad player to have in that rotation.

...from Hue Jackson - former Begals OC, winner of last year's Pro Football Writers Association co-Assistant Coach of the Year and now Cleveland Browns head coach - on which player from the Bengals offense has barely scratched the surface of his abilities. “Marvin Jones. Not even close. The guy is so talented. He has so much ability. We haven’t even touched how good he can be.”
So, the Lions get the best free agent WR available this year, still early in his career, at market rate with what looks like a lot of upside.
