OT: last day of Mike & Mike

Submitted by Mr. Elbel on
Listening to the last show of Mike and Mike on the app. Lots of people here don't like them (I could do with or without) but they've been around for forever and it's sad to see something like that end. Last show is basically a bunch of name drops followed by a bunch of people calling in to praise and thank them followed by both Mike's praising and thanking them back. So, not terribly different from any other show they've done since announcing the end of the show. Still, pretty historic event as far as sports talk radio goes. Will be interesting to hear how the last hour plays out. Will also be painful to hear every show on the air pay respects dutifully.

They were on every morning I drove to work for almost 20 yrs. They talked about sports and tried to be funny. If there was an alternative I would have listened. But I admit it's sad in a "we are all getting old" way.

I have mixed feelings about them ending the show. Being an early morning commuter in the 2000s at my first job out of school it was nice to have good sports radio to go to and the guys filled that roll. Either it's me growing up or ESPN changing but it's gotten too "bro-ish" and I can no longer listen for more than a few minutes.

On a national level probably not. I did enjoy Dan Patricks show one summer though.

Regional sports radio is where you really get the stuff you care about.

Boston has WEEI and The Sports Hub. They are addicting with the edge to Sports Hub.

Morning shows are a tie for me but WEEI has really really improved here. T&R from sports hub just won the marconi award which shows the level these guys are at.

Afternoon is a toss up and the weakest shows of either station.

Later afternoon is a landslide for F&M. Many of you probably read recently about Felger's opinion on Roy Halladay. That show is the best show in Boston though it has taken a couple baby steps back in recent years.

Late shows go to sports hub where Adam Jones is the most underrated guy in Boston sports radio.

Good riddance...hopefully their advertising commercials are done. They clearly mailed those in this past year and it was clear the animosity between them while recording them.

Haven't ever listened to Valenti either. I would occasionally catch Stoney & Wojo while in my car, and every fucking time they were having some idiotic contest about what's your favorite breakfast cereal, and I gave up those clowns.

I used to listen to them every morning, but over the years I got sick of them considering that there are better sportstalk radio shows nowadays than Mike and Mike.

However, I am listening this morning because of the national and monumental importance of this show. Just (to a slightly lesser extent) like Mike and The Mad Dog before them, this is the end of an era.

Such predictable comments from mgobloggers on how much they don’t like some national media figure heads because it’s the trendy thing to do here . Yeah they could get annoying , but sometimes comments here are as stale as Mike and Mike themselves
