OT - Kevin Newsome intends to transfer from Penn State

As a Michigan fan, I'm probably still jealous though. Right, Black Shoe Diaries?

with McGloin and Boldin... he wasn't going to play. Good luck to Kevin.

He definitely had his chance to win that job. After Clark left, he was definitely the favorite, but then to be beaten out by a true freshman and then a former walk-on AND with Paul Jones in the mix-- he had to know that he was pretty much done there. I wonder where he'll end up.

either Big East team or non-BCS Conf team like the MAC or Conf-USA

Decommitment ever as it opened the door for the kid who does not tie his shoes.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:43 AM ^
it was Shavodrick Beaver's decommitment that led to DRob as Tate made a verbal after his visit for Utah thus taking Newsome's place.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
This is a common misconception, but Newsome's decommitment was responsible for getting Tate and Beaver for Denard
December 9th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
Newsome got Denard beaver? Somehow I don't think Denard would need any help getting beaver for himself.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:42 AM ^
got McGroined.

No photo or video to go with the post? You must be tired this morning.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
I am letting people's imagination run wild with this one.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
You cease to amaze me
EDIT: cancel that... you included haven't... a very important clarifier.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:08 AM ^
I am having an off day. It was the bender of whippits last night probably.
December 9th, 2010 at 12:14 PM ^
Bender of whippits? You should be thinking clearly in ~23 days.
December 9th, 2010 at 12:16 PM ^
make for one hell of a diary! Whippits and Ecto Cooler. Does life get any better?
December 9th, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
Yes it will. Plenty o' missing words, weird spelllings, and references to the great Sea Capt'n Mike Leach.
December 9th, 2010 at 1:16 PM ^
I wish I could see his face on Capt'n Crunch once in my life. I could die happy then.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
That was outstanding. +1 sir.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:55 AM ^
Mine immediately went to Ronald McDonald kicking Newsome in the groin. What does that say about me???
December 9th, 2010 at 11:01 AM ^
You crave a big mac.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:46 AM ^
I do enjoy the odd big mac... maybe you're right!
December 9th, 2010 at 10:58 AM ^
McGroin probably told Newsome that it was impossible to do a sit up without seeing your hair.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
Because when he committed to U of M, he said U of M was like "the Godfather" of football programs. Of course, you don't turn your back on the Godfather without paying consequences.
Or, alternatively, if U of M is the Godfather, and Newsome isn't getting a fair shot at a role he's made for (QBing at PSU), expect a severed horse head in JoePa's bed soon...
December 9th, 2010 at 10:52 AM ^
I never knew that JoePa was into equestrianism. Maybe that's why Penn State was such a good fit for him.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
Except in this case the Godfather made him an offer that he DID refuse.
Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

Another Player Rodriguez Recruited Transferring
December 9th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
can he play LB?
December 9th, 2010 at 10:55 AM ^
I know you are joking, but I always thought that Newsome had a better opportunity for success as either a FB or a LB at the college level. If Newsome wants to play on a BCS conference team, he probably should seriously consider a position change.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:27 AM ^
A lot of schools who were recruiting him thought he was better suited for LB.
December 9th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
I'm just so happy this kid isn't our quarterback. Thank God for Denard!
December 9th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
December 9th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
make it interesting
December 9th, 2010 at 10:54 AM ^
I was wrong about Newsome. I really thought he could be our version of Tebow.
Consider me blown away by his relative lack of success. I still think we would have used him in a way more suited to his abilities, but I guess that is how the cookie crumbles, or something. Good luck to him. I will always root for him.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:12 AM ^
Not saying we should root for him to break his legs, but I'm curious as to why you remain so supportive. It was well known that he wasn't that interested in Michigan and was using us to drum up more interest from other schools.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:17 AM ^
He has steely eyes and the smooth coat of a Yale man... WTF?! I like him because I took an interest in him when he was a Michigan commit. I followed him and thought he would work well in our offense. I don't hate the player, I hate the game, man.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:46 AM ^
Ok, I guess it's just me that's still a bit bitter
December 9th, 2010 at 11:58 AM ^
Don't be bitter. I felt great when he decommitted. I went and checked mgoblog afterward and every post told me he sucked since he was not coming to Michigan. I guess this proves you never cross the board.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:16 AM ^
He always said he wanted to play in a pro style offense, so I never understood why he chose Michigan in the first place. Silly kids.
However, he seems like a good kid, so I wish him luck wherever he goes.
December 9th, 2010 at 11:23 AM ^
Maybe Newsome should go down to FCS. He would be able to play right away, and wouldn't have to worry about the amount of time it is taking for the game to "slow down" for him. If he wants to play with the big boys and maybe make the NFL, I agree with those who are thinking FB or LB. I would add H-back/TE to the equation.
As to the "support him or don't support him" debate, I always have mixed emotions for UM transfers or decommits. It's sorta cool to see them do well, but not so well that I wish they were still at Michigan.
December 9th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
Life is funny that way.
One minute you're a 4-star/5-star recruit, texting about how blue you are and everybody loves you.
The next minute, you're riding the pine and nobody wants you in the game.
Paul Jones, Robert Bolden and McGloin all did well fairly well and the future for PSU may be pretty bright there. McGloin really surprised me.
I think Newsome's a good athlete and he'll find success with some better coaching.
