Kiffin? Seems only logical at this point.

Unfortunately he may be with Cleveland.

Cleveland sucks.

The Lions are a disaster.
I would assume the leading candidate is Caldwell now. That would be an uninspiring hire.
January 13th, 2014 at 6:53 PM ^
Agree but Whisenhunt would have been very uninspiring as well. Have no idea why he was such a hot name. No one wanted him last year when he was available and his gameplans play-calling with the Chargers in their two playoff games made me want to gouge my eyes out.
January 13th, 2014 at 7:00 PM ^
He's credited with turning around Rivers (and their offense really) and he had some success in Arizona when he didn't have a garbage QB.
He's considered to be a bright offensive mind, which I think the Lions needed.

I was just about to come in and ask what the Lions will do now? They just interviewed Mike Munchak right?
January 13th, 2014 at 6:27 PM ^
They have interviewed Caldwell, Kubiak and Munchak. I'm not exactly thrilled with any of those three. Classic Lions.
January 13th, 2014 at 6:28 PM ^
Mike Munchak would also be an uninspiring hire.

Narduzzi?
January 13th, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
He would actually be better than any of the three guys mentioned above. But the Lions want an offense minded coach. What about Chudzinski?
January 13th, 2014 at 6:51 PM ^
I would take Chudzinski over any of the guys they are looking at. I really like how he develops TEs and he has always had good offensive success. I just think the Lions are looking for someone QB centric and I'm not sure he has much of a track record with QBs.
Don't forget the Lions also have an OC hiring to screw up... Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

Lions brass said they thought Munchak gave a killer interview, so I guess that's the next option.
January 14th, 2014 at 10:38 AM ^
yet was just fired at the end of the year. I'm personally not a big fan of hiring a coach that was just fired unless he is coming off one bad year after many successful ones.

He's terrible. Anyone who thinks he "taught" Manning anything is fooling themselves. Simply an appalling hire.
January 13th, 2014 at 6:35 PM ^
What exactly is the appeal of Jim Caldwell? I don't understand why he is even in contention for another head coaching job. Place virtually any position coach or coordinator in Indy with Peyton Manning and they will get to the playoffs. He did nothing remarkable with the Ravens, either. Above-average offense, but nothing special.
January 13th, 2014 at 7:23 PM ^
Let me rephrase that.. Of the candidates we have interviewed. I want caldwell.

http://www.nfl.com/teams/statistics?team=BAL
- 20.0 PPG, 25th in NFL
- 307.4 Total YPG, 29th in NFL
- 224.4 Passing YPG, 18th in NFL
- 83.0 Rushing YPG, 30th in NFL:
I agree with your ultimate point, but "Above-average" is giving Caldwell waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too much credit. He is terrible.
January 13th, 2014 at 6:32 PM ^
The Free Press is saying search is focused on Caldwell at this point. As a Vikings fan, I wholly endorse this new strategy. Double benefit of saddling the Lions with a totally underwhelming coach while preventing the Vikings from hiring him (sadly this means we will probably hire Bevell). I also think the Free Press isnt very excited as the stock photo of him they use for the article is not very flattering (looks immensely confused / shocked)

Frankly, we will be sitting here two years from now after they fire one whomever they hire from these two.
January 13th, 2014 at 6:31 PM ^
I'm still glad they got rid of Schwartz, and was hoping for Whisenhunt personally - Caldwell, Munchak, Kubiak are rumored - no thanks.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
As a Bears fan, I wholeheartedly approve these coaching options for the Lions.
January 14th, 2014 at 10:10 AM ^
This is an inexplicable attitude. You can hire one of two people: either a "hot coordinator" or a "retread." In other words, either someone who has or hasn't been a head coach. There are no other choices. The hot coordinator didn't work out and you're glad he's gone, but you don't want the the retread.

He took the Arizona Cardinals (THE ARIZONA CARDINALS!!!) to the Super Bowl and is considered a great offensive mind (which is ideal with Stafford, Megatron, Bush, maybe Sammy Watkins).

Not sure "ruined" is fair when Kurt Warner retired and he had to deal with Derek Anderson, Skelton, and Kolb in his last 3 seasons.
