I hate saying anything good about OSU players or things that could be considered complimentary but... JF was pretty elite throwing the ball as well.

From NBC Sports: Let’s get right to it: Fields’ 83.18% adjusted accuracy is the best I have ever recorded since I started with the 2016 class. That’s only about six years of data, but it’s still an impressive feat given some of the QBs to come out during that period. For reference, Joe Burrow (78.43%), Dwayne Haskins (77.17%), Baker Mayfield (76.53%), and Kyler Murray (74.68%) made up the top four previously. Fields beating out three first-overall picks and another first-round pick ain’t too shabby.

So I was going to make a joke and say "Height?" and then did my research before posting, and to my surprise they are the same height. For some reason I thought Fields would check in closer to 6 foot or 6-1, an Jones 6-3 or 6-4. Both 6-3.

Ok, that's my new thing I learned for today, see you guys tomorrow!

Absolutely some of it is the racial component but I'd also say that OSU's recent NFL QBs have underwhelmed significantly, while Alabama QBs (and guys like Hurts who came from there) have at least looked reasonably competent.  I'm not particularly high on either guy, though.

You can't ignore the fact that there is one very noticable difference between the two guys, and that difference to apparent to even the average person:

Fields is a transfer QB. He didn't want to wait his turn and compete for the job.

Jones sat behind Tua and Hurts and waited his turn.

What other differences are there?

Most boards have the QB's:

  1. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson. ...
  2. Zach Wilson, BYU. ...
  3. Justin Fields, Ohio State. ...
  4. Trey Lance, North Dakota State. ...
  5. Mac Jones, Alabama. ...
  6. Kyle Trask, Florida. ...
  7. Kellen Mond, Texas A&M. ...
  8. Jamie Newman, Wake Forest/Georgia.

I'd push Fields down past Trask or further.  Another overrated OSU QB who will flame out in the NFL.

Falling down draft boards makes me think he went from 4 to 34.  This could be about other guys playing really well.  If he's even the 5th QB drafted, but still in the first, that's pretty impressive.

I think he's got all the arm talent and athleticism to be successful, but when you actually watch him during games, I've never been impressed by his ability to make reads or make tight throws. Having a receiving corp of all high 4*s and 5*s I think definitely made it hard to truly know how good he is. Not to mention his games against Indiana and Northwestern are glaring holes on his recent resume. With that being said, Idk exactly why he's falling so much

NJVictor same could de said for Jones. Just because you’ve got great receivers around doesn’t mean the QB isn’t good. I would say Jones benefitted more than fields with a stacked roster. Mac Jones went to DSmith a ton on first reads. This happens every year before the draft. Btw the 49’ers are having an exclusive pro day with Fields as they couldn’t attend OSU’s pro day, what does that tell you?

He will suck in pros just like Haskins. I said Haskins would be garbage and this board went nuts and told me I was WRONG!

I think he has some question marks, but his ceiling is still very high. His questions don’t overweigh the questions around Wilson and Lance IMO. I would be comfortable with my franchise taking any of the three. I do not understand the supposed San Fran infatuation with Jones. But it could also just be bluster.

While Wilson's level of competition isn't as good, I definitely see why he's risen to #2 on QB draft boards. He does have a lot of Mahomes to his game where he can make some pretty crazy throws from a variety of arm angles, can throw on the move, off his back foot, etc.

The way Haskins flopped doesn’t help. As others have said, OSU has 5 star athletes all over the field. They are more talented than every team they play until they get to the playoffs. It isn’t hard for him to find an open receiver. Much more difficult in the NFL with tight windows.
