...no appeal there...money would be the Don's only form of damages now...and since his wife just landed the biggest sale in NBA history and is going to handover $1 Billion to the Don for half the sale of the Clips, that is going to be a tough sell.

Funny how quick the media was to completely ignore the fact that he's likely senile and losing his mind.  They found a convenient white, Jewish old man that was easy to hate.  These leagues apparently have no problem having TEAMS with more racist names than the words Donald used, but will throw the old Jewish man and force the sale of his property.

You do understand the comparison, correct?  I do understand that the NFL and NBA are different leagues, though they do hold similar positions in society and are held to similar standards by the general public.  Funny that "Redskins" is a perfectly fine franchise name, but being a cringe-worthy old man is the single worst racial abuse of the past decade, judging by the penalty.

But that doesn't change anything re: Sterling or Silver. Silver doesn't defend "Redskins." And he can't control the NFL. I understand your comparison. But it doesn't illuminate anything other than that the general public is inconsistent in how and when it cares about racism. That shouldn't surprise anyone.

Well then it's time someone took back the horseshit measures of public opinion the media and businesses are using these days.  Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest.  Bunch of unemployed narccists and teenagers are the group these businesses are judging public opinion by.  I don't know a damn person who was actually offended by half of the shit the media twitters on about.  Bunch of primadonna gender studies grads making decisions for these companies PR departments and in the newsroom.

Sterling wasn't thrown out because he said some horrible things, he got thrown out because advertisers started pulling their ads and it started messing with peoples money and to a lesser extent the players threatened to boycott, which would also mess with peoples money.  Jim Irsay won't see harsh punishments because while he did some bad things, those don't really affect anyone but him and his family.  The media can do whatever it likes, people can disagree and get angry about whatever they like but in the end it's about the bottom line.  Sterling had created a toxic atmosphere and I believe Chris Paul and Doc Rivers when they said they would not play if he still owned the team.  Forcing Sterling out of the league was the correct business decision for everyone involved, including Donald who gets to walk away with 2-4 times what his portion of ownership was really worth.  The lesson in this whole thing is not don't get caught doing bad things, it's don't do something that adversly affects peoples money.

It's amazing that he became a billionaire with how much of a jerk he is. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett give to charities, Illitch helps the city of Detroit come back, and all this guy does is cheat on his wife and continue make an ass of himself in interviews.

Why is that amazing? Unfortunate, yes. But amazing, no. Buffett and Gates did not make their money because they would give it to charity when they made billions, they made it because they were quite smart, worked hard, and are good at business. Sterling made money because he was a good lawyer and smart with his real estate investments. This has nothing to do with being a jerk, though you could argue being a jerk helps in those two businesses.

I don't have much doubt that Donald Sterling would mount an appeal, but the fact that the order states that Shelly Sterling can proceed with the sale with no delay pretty much regardless of what her husband tries makes me think that this might have been the final obstacle. Especially in light of some of the stern warnings given by certain personnel should the name Sterling remain associated with the team longer than absolutely necessary, if you will, I am thinking that the attempt to offload the Clippers is a relatively quick one.

Mmmm Hmmm

I don't known California civil procedure all that well but I suppose he could seek an emergency stay from the appellate court. If the appellate court does not grant a stay pending appeal, though, he will be reduced to haggling with his (ex?)wife over sale proceeds rather than ownership of the team.

I assume Sterling will appeal, but he isn't keeping that team and, I don't know, I'd rather just have the money and move on to the next phase of my (rapidly dwindling) life.  But again, I'm not a racist billionaire.

in the sense that he was recorded illegally (i am assuming this is true without really giving a fuck to research it).  I also agree what he said was not that bad (bomani jones also agrees) in hte spectrum of racism.

I think the ultimate question becomes which players in the league would voluntarily go to sterling/s team after he has been publicly outed as disliking/hating black folks? an opportunity to shine vs. being labeled an uncle tom of sorts

Would it change your mind to know that Sterling also illegally discriminated against people of color in the housing units he owned for decades? Are you cool with all discrimination or just verbal discrimination in which one insinuates that their employees are slaves?

for 12 million dollars.  His return on investment even considering inflation is pretty astronomical.

I also think Balmer is an idiot to pay that much for the Clippers
