OT: Having nice things in 2014 (holiday shopping)

Submitted by will on

What is on your wish list for this holiday season? (Other than X being hired as coach) My wife bought the helmet and display case last christmas that had been on the top of my list forever. I now must reconsider options which were once unfathomable.

For the little ones, I just bought 2 pairs of crocs for $10 each (sale today only):

Living in Columbus I'm relegated to only finding decent UM items online..

God I hope Michigan won't be like the parent who gets their child the knock off instead of the real thing, because I will be an ungrateful shit if that happens. "I never get anything I want!" "But the man at the store said this Schiano is basically the same as the Harbaugh." "It's not the same thing at all, I hate you!"

I've been wanting to get my UM degrees framed since they've just been sitting in my basement in their mailing envelopes waiting for some basement flood to destroy them. However, I'm a bit reluctant to have them framed and hung since there seems to be a positive correlation between the obnoxiousness of a person and the prominence with which their degree(s) are displayed.

This Ali vs. Marciano fight promotion poster for my games room.

Last year I got an autographed Braylon and Marlin Jackson photo framed. A Burke auoto 8x10 too.

I also want this cool Ted Williams Moxie Soda metal sign!

I love anything vintage and UofM!

I bought Mrs. WalmartWolverine a MacBook Air. When Mrs. WW asked what I want -- I want an AyA #4/53 in a 20-bore -- I just said I hadn't been very good this year. We got a new house for Thanksgiving, so I can go light on Christmas.

and garlic plants for my new house. We moved this year and I had to kill a rattlesnake that was too close to the house. I've heard that snakes don't like garlic, so I am getting (I hope!) some to put in near the house. My M gear is out of control, so I don't have any on my list.

My son, too. He's only a freshmen so there's time to improve but we have the opposite problem - he says he wants to go to Michigan and then gets a D on a biology honors assessment (and it was easy stuff, he just raced through it). He's a corner cutter. I'd like to get that fixed for Hanukah/Christmas.

If only you could give them the foresight to understand how much better it is to just spend the couple of hours focusing and studying rather than have them look back in hindsight and think, "Wow, if I would have just studied more, I'd be in a much better position now." I don't know how many times I've said, "The better you do, the more choices you'll have when it comes time for college."  Doesn't seem to compute yet.

Simpsons house.  Silly, but he'll dig it.  I don't want or need anything.  Getting too old, I guess.

Who is this "X" you speak of....what is his record?  I'm intrigued...

I have found that the best option for getting what you want for Christmas is buying what you want yourself and then finding someone who is willing to not only give it to you but also reimburse you.

Me and the wife (proper MGoBlog English) just gave each other a membership to the Vail Gondola Club. No more putting boots on in the parking lot or schlepping skis.

I enjoy getting presents for the kids more than anything.  I purchased the Millenium Falcon lego set for my nephew.  He is going to lose his mind when he sees it.  It is over 1200 pieces and guaranteed to cause my brother great pain as he will have to put it together on Christmas morning.

Secretly, I'm looking forward to playing with it as well.

My wife and I actually don't get presents for ourselves save for a little thing here and there - the main focus is the kids. This year, they are getting their own Kindle Fires so they can finally stop fighting over various mobile devices because of varied app selections on each. Now, it's "Download what you want, don't bother your sibling, have a nice Christmas."

Ten minutes later, the first squabble over who has which apps will erupt. I can see it.

I really want a car. Problem is, we are saving up for a house down payment. Current car just got paid off and is (of course) starting to need repairs (heat is wonky, trans is wonky). Was thinking of getting a lease for a better family car that would be our 1st new-new car, while still getting some value for the current one. Yes, I'm fishing for advice for the situation and any car advice as well
