OT - Go Nebraska! Beat the Buffs

Submitted by trueblue262 on September 6th, 2023 at 9:16 AM

I'm sure there are others feeling the same way, but the last few days of Primetime interviews and press conferences has been a bit much. The way he handled the transition in Boulder, theres no possible way that he didnt think there were going to be some "non believers". Going through his press conference and not taking questions from media people that "doubted" him?? telling everybody he has receipts......I know its unlikely , but I hope Nebraska beats their ass this week just so we dont have to go through another week of this crap. Anybody else out there sick of the "prime theatre"?

I thought some of the things he said this off season and even recently were a bit over the top, but that's who he is.

Nobody talks more trash and backs it up as much as Deion. That goes back to FSU/NFL and now coaching.

I know it's only 1 game, but I hope CU continues to win. It may get tiresome, but CU winning would be great for college football.

Also, I dont want Nebraska to have any momentum this season. I know UM doesnt play them for a while, but I would prefer CU to beat them convincingly.

You're correct that, in the (unlikely) scenario of a 3-(or more) way tie for 1st in the B1G East EOY - the most likely scenario being 8-1 UM, 8-1 OSU, 8-1 PSU, with each having both beaten and lost to the other 2 one time - it would come down to the 5th tiebreaker, which is cross-division record of opponents played.  As PSU plays NW, they are likely 3rd place in this scenario.  M-OSU have 2 common crossovers, with us playing Nebraska and OSU playing Wisconsin -

Again, very unlikely to happen (if PSU or OSU loses any other B1G game than between The Big 3 in the B1GE it's a moot point), but if that were the case we are HUGE Nebraska fans, and really need them to beat Wisconsin in Madison in (I believe) the 2nd to last week of the regular season.  Non-con has nothing to do with it - i.e. OSU could be 10-2 with a loss at ND, against 11-1 UM and 11-1 PSU, but if all were 8-1 B1G they're tied in the B1G tiebreaking procedures, and OOC is not one of the tiebreakers.

Personally, if I'm at all concerned, it's moreso with the H2H tiebreaker against 1 team - if OSU loses in Madison, and then all 3 B1GE go 1-1 H2H, OSU is out in 3rd with 2 B1G losses, but UM could lose an 8-1 tiebreak if the 1 is at Happy Valley the 3rd to last week of the season (presuming OSU beats PSU at home).

Just win all the games.

Co-sign with this opinion.

Over the top is the whole Coach Prime brand. Shake things up. Get noticed. Get the team, recruits, and boosters excited about a program that has been in the wilderness for a couple of decades and 1-11 a year ago.

Plus, and this doesn't get emphasized enough, if "old school" people would look a little closer, they'd realize he's very old school in the way he coaches the team. He is by all accounts a tough disciplinarian and maintains strict rules about things like where and when players can have phones-- tougher than most programs I've ever heard about.

Consider this: in their first game playing together with essentially an entirely new roster, his team committed only 6 penalties for 35 yds and one turnover. That's a disciplined team right there. That's good, old school coaching.

I like Prime. I'm rooting for him. And I usually pull for the B10 team unless they are playing ND. But I also enjoy when MSU/OSU struggle.

Normally I'd root for Neb but those guys are annying mostly bc of Scotty Frost, him mom, and also I get the sense Neb's program is basically Osborn, end of statement.

That said, I find it midly annoying when coaches/ppl moan about people not 'believing.'

"to accept that (something) is true, especially without proof."

Show me 1st, Prime. Until then, I'm not gonna be sold on you. You did just that, congrats. I still am not sold that they will be bowl eligible. Pac 12 is, ironically, pretty strong this year.

I don’t understand this mentality. Am I the outlier that roots for B10 teams in non conference? A win over Colorado would be a (small) boost for the entire conference in terms of credibility.

To the extreme, if every B10 school outside of UM lost every out of conference game, we would suddenly turn into the Sun Belt or MAC and be almost entirely irrelevant and would lessen the chance of making a playoff significantly.

I don't have a dog in the fight here, TBH. If he can pull it (as in a winning season) off, he's clearly a damn good coach and found some really good players. Even with all the talent in the world, you gotta coach those guys to play as a team.

I think we'll find that TCU was fairly gutted after their big year last year and was far more middling than they were given credit for.

That said Nebraska is......Nebraska. Matt Rhule may win some games there but it probably won't be this year. Also, we have a much better sense of who Nebraska is already with their game against Minnesota, so this week will be a clearer barometer for the Prime experiment one way or the other. The real answers will come in week 4 and 5 with Oregon and USC on the calendar.

But yeah...if you're gonna talk big, you gotta back it up. If you can back it up, well then...hat tip to you, Mr. Sanders.

I’m not a non-believer. I think Deion can coach, especially when he has much better players than his opponent.

I think he is a douche for the way they ran almost all of the players out of the program. He could have done more to assist them in leaving when he arrived. He wouldn’t even met with some of them. Deion also told high school players that he would honor their commitment, then his coaches ghosted them before NSD.

Deion gets results, but he is an ass. These are still college age young men and he treated close to 100 of them like trash. This is coming from someone who was a big fan of him as a player.

The thing is, its not that there were "some" non-believers.  There were a whole hell of a lot of them.  Feels like anyone who was plugged in to college football had something negative to say about Colorado.  Also the spread vs TCU was 21 points!  TCU lost a ton of contributors from last season.  Vegas REALLY didn't believe in Colorado.  Even with all the talent they have?  Sheesh.

Can't say that I particularly care much either way.

I don't mind Nebraska having some success, as long as they are figuratively wiped off the face of the earth the week Michigan visits Lincoln.

The Coach Prime circus is over the top, but Hunter is a special talent and Sanders may just be a decent QB.  I don't expect them to win games against tougher opponents, but Nebraska's defense is probably somewhere in between Charmin and drywall.

It should be a fun watch.

I can't get enough Coach Prime. He's good for the sport, and I'll take him every day if the week vs. any of those nattering nabobs in the media or the "powers that be" at ESPN and the NCAA.

He’ll get tiresome eventually. But if it’s a choice between Prime vs Nick Saban whining about how it’s tougher for him to win championships these days and how we should ignore better teams in favor of giving Alabama a shot at the title due to some kind of Lifetime Achievement Award… I’m choosing Coach Prime every day

Like him or hate him. Deion is good for college football.  We need more personalities like him in the game.  I could care less if he wins or loses, but I like the extra theater that is brought to the game with him around.

I don't think we need more coaches who treat the players like meat in a packing factory, picking and choosing cuts. But why can't we just enjoy the upsets and upheaval and the spectacle? We don't have to love the guy, or to take a frickin' stand--yes, no--on everything. A good upset's a good upset, though, and that was fun football.

Chances are they come back down to earth soon. This may not be the weekend, though.

The guys on HIS team seem to love him (remember he did the unthinkable when he signed Travis Hunter, the No. 1 recruit to an HBCU..over Bama and everyone else). The guys on the massively losing team before him were not his guys and he wasn't hired to carry them with him..he was hired to pull that program out of the wilderness and he's doing it w expediency.

This is CFB today...and Prime had his one year exemption to do wholesale roster change and took full advantage of the rules.

If Harbaugh had come to UM following a disastrous 1-11 season most here probably would have wanted him to turn over the roster immediately. And Harbaugh was seen as showy and rebellious when he came in w his "signing of the stars", overseas satellite camps, sleepovers and tree climbing...and that was at UM. Harbaugh was also accused of oversigning and running off some commits. He wasn't afraid of controversially stirring the pot. And UM fans loved it whilst everyone else knocked him for it.

Harbaugh and Prime are cut from similar cloth but just w a different regional vibe and pigmentation.

Idk I like Deion and Colorado. Fun team. Why hate on a coach and team that has swag? It’s good for the game

Miami had this going on in the late 80s early 90s.  Cocky teams are either loved or hated dpending on your rooting interest, but they do make the game entertaining.  Plus this is not new for
Deion, he was like this at FSU under Bowden.

As a CSU alum and sicko for watching whatever version of football they throw out there, I naturally dislike CU and the overall spirit of most who attend or have attended CU. I won't get into it but it's my own thing and I deal with it as needed. CU (and most teams on their schedule) will blow my beloved Rammies off whatever cliff they're hanging onto.

I absolutely loved the Deion Sanders hire as it gave a Vader-esque feel to the guy in charge at CU. I thought his approach to the roster was weird and egregious while his self-promotion/ego sky-rocketed on a national stage. That said, if he continues to win and win convincingly like he did at TCU as 21 point dogs, you gotta give him some credit. I still hope they lose all of their games and he's sent out of town in a year or two on a buffalo but winning is the great equalizer and shuts up critics real fast. It's a long season and I fear he actually has the coaching and/or motivational chops to turn CU into a contender against a soft PAC-12 conference. F my life.

I mean, both Muhammad Ali and random Twitter trolls talked game; the proof is always a consistent track record of success.

We can't say whether Prime ends up as one or the other now, but it'll happen soon. Until then, quit drinking and go to bed. ;)

Are you a football fan or personality fan? You can watch football and ignore the other nonsense.

I will never understand this obsession with trying to lump bits of somebody's personality with their achievements and use that as a reason to want them to fail. You are free to let that stuff go.

So you're mad at Deon because he playfully called out a few reporters who endlessly shit on him and his team all offseason?  I've seen maybe 60 seconds of what you're saying you're mad about here and I probably watch an hour+ of sports news every day.  Just how much Deon shit are you watching every day to get this mad at him?

Are there some other issues at play here?  This just seems super weird to get this upset and create blog posts trashing him because you got mad at his press conference.  I really don't care if he wins or loses.  If I ever see so much of him on my tv that I start to get this upset about him, I'll probably just change the channel rather than getting mad online about him.

Kinda hope he wins just so Nebraska loses.  Don't want Rhule and Nebraska to become good and challenge in the B1G.  Other than that, I don't really care.

No. Just no.

Being upset that DEION SANDERS is loud and brash and has unbridled self confidence…my dude I don’t know what to tell you.

He’s coming off a major upset win in his first game. His team looked good. He’s allowed to be happy.

In the absence of any kind of stake in the game, I’ll tend to root for “the best game of football”. If Nebraska wins, it’s going to be ugly, terrible, a slog of a football game. We don’t deserve that.

It won’t be long before Colorado has their ass handed to them by a better team. Everyone loses eventually.

You don’t have to like him. But it’s going to take a lot more than that for me to root for Nebraska…
