OT: Friday "What are You Listening To?" Thread
It's been awhile since we've had an off-topic music thread (and switching it up from the drinking threads), so here goes:
I'm on a huge Dawes, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Alabama Shakes kick.
What is everyone listening to on this fine Friday?
Cheers.

I like the Friday afternoon topic changeup.
I'm listening to a Hype Machine playlist. It's an MP3 blog aggregator, if you care to try.

I'm listening to a conference call with some dudes/dudets in Europe and what I still call Russia.
What is the average age of this board, 21?

Is this an "I hate Skrillex" post?
Music is music, whatever sounds good to you is what you should listen to, if you dont like it, dont listen to it. I dont understand the need for some to insult what people like to listen to.
Skrillex seems to be a real point of contention even though just about every musician today uses a laptop in some way when it comes to their music.
I think Skrillex has some talent, but he has ruined dubstep. He turned an amazing genere of music into "brostep"
Technically dubstep is something all together different than what most people know it as. Am I an ultra Skrillex fan? No. But I really hate when people diss a musician because they dont fit a certain genre. If it sounds good to you, it sounds good. No need for labels. Hell, if you want a genre bending group try "Yournalist" they go from country to pop to death metal to punk all in the same album.
He's not a musician.. He's just a douchebag with a laptop and ableton.

Last year I found some of my new favorites from other MGoBloggers, hopefully I can return the favor!
Trampled By Turtles - bluegrassy American music. "Wait So Long" will make your jeans tight.
Twin Shadow- If the 80's and the movie soundtrack for Drive had a baby, but then gave it up for adoption and it was raised by Morrissey, that child would be Twin Shadow.
The Avett Brothers- The best live show I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.
The Lumineers- My friend's roomate from college is in this band (my friend's roomate's sister saw Ferris pass out at a 31 flavors) , but they are starting to get some national recognition
Frank Ocean- R&B is not usually my jam, but his new album is fantastic. Sings with a ton of emotion- not expected from a member of the infamous Odd Future crew.

Good to hear. I think one of their songs was used in a national commercial recently as well...

Saw Frank in Toronto on Tuesday. Guy is blowing up, 'Channel Orange' will win a few grammys.

Trampled by Turtles is interesting. Just started listening per your recommendation. I figured you have to give any band a chance that has a song called "Walt Whitman." I don't know how I feel about them yet though.

We should totally make an MGoBloggers Spotify list, where we can share music. If anyone is interested, I'll set it up.

Not to spam the board, but I actually started with a friend a website / iphone app that helps you to easily share music preference (along with movies, books, restaurants, etc.) with your friends. Would be nice to get some MGoBlog music sharing on there.
No pressure, but if you want it's called Mouthee, it's in the iPhone App Store, or you can preview the beta version of our web rollout at http://web.mouthee.com.
That's the last you'll hear from me on the topic.

On my drive to work today the radio had Milhaud La Creation du Monde arranged for double string quartet. The original is great and the double quartet (octet? not sure) version is also cool if you dig acoustic instruments.

"Take a Walk" by the Passion Pit has been on repeat in my head for what seems like a week.
Radical Face (I'm usually not one to recommend a band because of people's various music tastes but I highly checking them out through youtube), Ben Howard, Of Monsters and Men, Damien Rice, and Bon Iver. And the Dark Knight Rises Main Theme Song.

My ridiculously huge "indie" playlist, including such favorites as: Elbow, Small Sins, The Silent Years, Rogue Wave, Foals, Washed Out, Boards of Canada, etc.
Seldom Seen Kid. So, so good.
Truth. Cast of Thousands is still my favorite, though.
