OT - Five-Hour Energy

Submitted by jmblue on
Do you use it? Do you love it? Seriously, has anyone here not named Braylon Edwards used it? How was it?

I have no proof of this, but I think that shit is what screwed him up. I don't know if you guys could have heard this but during a Browns game one of the announcers said they talked to him about the dropped balls and Braylon said something about the balls were vibrating on him. I think that he couldn't focus enough and was getting to antsy.

I don't mind the taste. Some say it tastes like cough medicine. I think it works well- 4-5 hours and no crash. I don't drink coffee or soda so I don't get a lot of caffeine use regularly. I believe the amount of caffeine in this is like a cup of coffee

I drank it once. It's like 4 bucks a shot. It does taste like vomit, but I was REALLY tired when I drank it and I stayed up for another four or five hours and THEN drove an hour home without incident. It made my burps smell like vomit, too, but nobody died from my breath, so that's good.

Took two of them one day at work. Didn't do jack diddley poo. However, I also have a ridiculous tolerance to caffeine. Tastes bad, but vomit is definitely an exaggeration.

they bottle that stuff in brighton, which is 16 miles north of ann arbor. my old roommate was in the fire dept. that responded to a fire at the bottling plant a year ago and ever since they have gotten the stuff for free. we used to take it every day before a job we did and it worked well for giving us energy and did not give us any of the anxiety associated with coffee or caffeine. still, the price makes it very unattractive

I'm a 3-4 cup/day coffee drinker normally, so that's a fairly high tolerance to caffeine. I took 5-hour on the way to a family X-mas gathering after getting 2 hours of sleep the previous night. The 5 hour tasted like cherry Kool-Aid with way too much artificial sweetener; it was pretty nasty, but maybe a step or two above cough syrup. It did keep me going, though. I didn't get sleepy until early evening when I had some coffee, and got through the day with some normalcy. Probably would not repeat: too expensive. Beside the purple flavor (fruit punch?) Vitamin Energy tastes way better than any other energy drink I've ever had.

is mgoblog littered with hippies these days? this drink isn't that expensive. $3? $4 max? goto espresso royale or starbucks and you're paying the same for some mocha tie dye latte with sprinkles.

I'd rather the board be full of hippies than latte-sippin' limousine liberals! Plus you gotta factor in quantity to assess value. With the 5-hour energy, you're paying $4 for, what, 1 fl oz.? Whereas the latte or mocha is more like 10 oz. and doesn't taste like juicy ass

It doesn't taste good but it gets the job done. Also, Five Hour energy isn't too big on caffeine. Where it gets you is the 8000% of your recommended Vitamin B intake.

It's just a marketing ploy as all other energy drinks are. They don't give you ENERGY. They just give you caffeine or some other stimulant. But of course, people are swayed by the PLACEBO effect and will SWEAR it works. You can put piss in a bottle, call it the greatest energy drink, and people will think it works.

I give my hunting dog a bottle of that a half an hour before the woods and you oughta see all the shiat he kicks up. I never come home with any bullets.

I've tried it twice. It tastes mediocre, at best. I didn't notice any effect at all on my energy level. The only discernible effect was that my face got really hot and flush for the next 15 minutes. I would never use it again. I much prefer coffee (at any time of day) for both the taste and the alertness. I've never had a problem with things other people have listed (anxiety? crash?), so I'm happy to stick the good old black stuff.

Usually the flushing is Niacin, lots of it. I agree with Craven. It matters little what's in the bottle as long as we buy the ad campaign. It appears this stuff has the caffeine of a cup of coffee and a bunch of B-Vitamins and a bunch of stuff that has little effect. Wake up, drink ONE cup of coffee, not the 44oz. 7/11 behemoth and you'll have a few good perky hours with very little crash. B-Vitamins, like other vitamins, are proving to be much better for you when consumed in their natural form... ie. food.

Thanks for the replies. I'm a coffee drinker but I was just curious to know, given all the ads, if this stuff actually does anything.
