OT: Fantasy Football Start/Sit em Thread

Submitted by GVSUGoBlue on

I propose a new weekly OT thread: Fantasy Football Start/Sit em. Every week I encounter a dilemma and I'm sure I am not alone. Mods feel free to delete if this isn't a good idea. I think this could be a fun new tradition.

Disclaimer: I am in a NON-PPR 2 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2Flex, 1 D/ST, 1 K league.

This week I am deciding between 3 players for 2 spots.

WR Golden Tate vs Arizona (24th ranked D vs Opposing WRs)-ESPN projection 7 Fpts

WR Brandon Marshall vs Minnesota (11th ranked D vs Opposing WRs)-ESPN projection 4 Fpts

RB Terrance West vs Houston (23rd ranked D vs Opposing RBs)-ESPN projection 10 Fpts

My thoughts:

Tate performed well opposite Megatron last week with 10 Fpts for me. I am most confident he will get one of the spots.

Marshall has been limited with an ankle inury but did rack up some points last week against GB once the game was already over. Minnesota has been really good against opposing WRS and it is gonna be a cold game (probably with snow) to be throwing footballs around for long chunks of yards. The last time I sat Marshall he went off against San Fran.

West is in line for the most snaps of the 3 RBS in Cleveland. It worked well last week against Cincy but I am skeptical of trusting him again even if Houston is a favorable matchup for RBs in what is going to be a cold game.

What are your thoughts on my dilemma? What is your Start/Sit em decision of the week?

I'm starting Jennings because the Bears defense is horrible. I'm torn between Tate and Marshall because the Marshall has a better matchup, but Tate has been golden thus far this season.

I think Brandon Marshall will have a good game. Even though the Bears suck, Cutler looks his way before anyone else.

I'm just as skeptical of West as you are, but I'm starting him anyway because Arian Foster is out and 2 of my other RBs or on bye.

Thoughts on Brandon LaFell vs Martavis Bryant?

My primary dilemma for the week (and probably every week going forward): I have to pick two WRs from Golden Tate, Roddy White, and Odell Beckham, Jr. Right now I'm thinking Tate and Beckham, because of Tate's consistency even with Megatron back and Beckham's much higher volume of targets relative to White, who is a little too up and down and TD dependent for my tastes.

To the OP: I'd say Marshall and Tate. Tate for sure, given the Lions will be throwing a lot (Arizona's run D is good and the Lions' run O is pretty weak), and Tate has been really consistent for weeks. Marshall...well, mostly because I wouldn't trust West. You'd be gambling on picking the hot hand out of a three-headed RBBC. Both Marshall and West are risky, but Marshall seems like both the safer bet and the higher upside.

he will surely get more targets in the passing game. I have a feeling that Riddick will have a good game today. He has been coming on as of late. He has made big catches in the past two wins.

and with Stafford going to Theo late in games(and Theo producing) I see him growing more comfortable with Riddick. Riddick is going to be a big part of the Lions plans going forward. He is a guy they can move all around on offense. Outside, slot, RB...the guy is versatile and that is an attribute the Saints-style offense Lombardi is running likes.

Non-PPR league: At my flex position, I'm trying to decide between James Jones, Martellus Bennett and Bobby Rainey. I have James Jones in that spot right now because it's a guarantee he'll get the lion' share of the targets (although he may not do much with them). Bennett seems like the obvious choice, but I have no faith in Cutler, and with Rainey I'm concerned that this is the game the Bucs decide Sims is their main man at RB. Any advice for me?

I say this as someone who tried to roll the dice with Rainey last week as a bye fill-in, I would strongly advise against playing Rainey.

I would definitely go Bennett over Jones. Jones has gotten more targets but is consistently scoring less than Bennett every week. Jones gets 0-5 points a week; Bennett gets 5-10. And even if you don't trust Cutler, I wouldn't trust Carr any more.

Ouch, that is a tough one. I'm most likely keeping Rainey on the bench today because I think that Sims will be the guy in TB today. However, there's still a decent chance that doesn't happen. But with Detroit now that Bush is confirmed out, you can bet that Reddick will at least get some passing targets out of the backfield. I'd go with Reddick, but very hesitantly.

Grabbed Crowell immediately, but do I like him more than Asiata with Cleveland's "hot hand" approach?  All three Browns RBs scored last week against Cincy but it was Crowell who put the ball on the turf (though it was later overturned), hence my hesitation.
