OT: Dan Campbell Wants to Get a Real Lion That Will Take a Dump During Practice
He's obviously going to be just as bad as every other Lions coach ever, but man, this guy is entertaining. Whether he's serious or not, he wants to get a real pet lion to bring to practice.
“On command, you could train him like if one of your groups isn’t doing well you could just take him over to their section and just have it take a dump right there in the middle of where their section is at and then bring him on back. I mean, think about it. It’d be outstanding."
He's already my favofite Lions coach ever.
LINK.
We have our coach Ditka for sure. Now go win a Super Bowl.
now we need a Buddy Ryan DC.
1st and only DC carried off the field by his players after their Super Bowl victory.
He's making Lions football fun which is more than I can say for his predecessors so I'll take that in a heartbeat
Wayne Fontes wasn't fun?
Wayne Fontes is still alive!
Watching Wayne Fontes telegraph handing the ball off to Barry Sanders 8 yards deep in the backfield on 3rd and one made me want smash my head on the floor.
Those Lions teams had talent.
Right on! Can you imagine some of those Barry-era teams if they ran today's read/option offenses? Wow!
You mean press conferences. Let's see how fun the games will be come September. This is really the only difference. We haven't had a coach fun at press conferences since Mariucci.
Here in Cleveland Kevin Stefanski took a slightly different approach and has totally won the team over. Stefanski, if you dont already know is very smart, looks kinda like a young George Clooney and is not very firey or dramatic at all. In other words he's nothing like Dan Campbell. But here is a paraphrased version of the speech he gives every new Brown when he meets them for the first time:
"Your career in the NFL will most likely be a short one. My job, as the HC, is to put you in a position to maximize your earnings during your short career so you can make the most money you can - be it here in Cleveland or somewhere else. If you listen to me and buy into our system I promise I will do that for you."
It's no shitting Lion or partial dismemberment but boy was THAT effective in getting the individual players to buy into his program.
The fact that you think he is “fun” or the OP thinks this is “entertaining” just shows why the Lions are the Lions. Campbell is a clown, won’t make the Lions better, and in 1-3 years there will be a new post about the next head coach of the Lions.
PS - thank you for sending the Rams a QB. I am sure Campbell and Goff will have an amazing synergy next year…it is going to be a beautiful mess.
This would indeed get the players' attention considering how goddamn foul-smelling fresh lion shit is.
Caldwell was the dullest Lions HC since Darryl Rogers and took us to the playoffs twice with three second place finishes. I would take dull and meaningful football in December over fun and 4-12.
Just have no idea how this guy gets through the interview process and everybody says, “yep. He’s the one.” Hoping to be proven wrong, but I do not have high hopes.
100% this. I read the article and it just feels like another high energy guy who impresses in an interview and gets quick buy in, but doesn't have the organizational chops to get it done. At some point you have to go out and find wins and pet lions taking dumps on position groups doesn't seem like the way to do that.
The Lions got someone who is the opposite of Patricia except my guess is the number of wins over three years is going to roughly similar.
Guy assembled a good staff and seems to work well with Holmes.... seems better than many other new coaches. Give him a shot
I loved the intensity. But now I think he might just be crazy. I guess that’s not a bad thing in a football coach. I’d love to get crazy Harbaugh back.
Crazy Harbaugh also had the technical chops to make a team better though. At every stop prior to Michigan, he had great QB play and an offense that worked.
Campbell doesn't seem like that type. Love the man for the energy but he's going to have to rely on his staff, it seems like. To his credit, the assistants have a ton of experience and talent it seems, multiple former head coaches, an experienced QB coach in Brunell, and an up and comer in Staley. I hope it works. With the Lions, the technicians like Patricia and Mariucci failed, and so did the rah-rah guys like Marinelli. There is obviously no clear strategy that's worked.
Carnival barker/clown show.
I'm supposed to be impressed? I've been watching the Lions take dumps for 50 years.
Personal favorite...Marty Mornhenweg taking the wind to start overtime against the Bears. Yours?
"I've been watching the Lions take dumps for 50 years." OK, that's good.
My moment was seeing all the hype surrounding rocket boy Matt Patricia take over a decent Lions team with promises to get them to the next level and get absolutely annihilated on national TV vs a rookie quarterback from the Jets in week 1.
There was no hype after the Eagles lit his defense up in the Super Bowl. I was pissed when Miami got the defensive play caller that only gave up 3 points in the Super Bowl
Jim Schwartz rule is my personal favorite. Not firing Matt Millen is also up there, but isn’t really a specific shitting incident, rather a multi year gastrointestinal disease. Like Crohn’s disease.
This dude is more of a clown every time he opens his mouth.
Totally agree, win a few games then inject your personality
Haha!! This guy is entertaining in a way that Rod Marinelli tried to be, wanted to be, but wasn't... I sure do hope he's a better coach, too!
He seems a bit eccentric. It will be entertaining but beyond that, not confident.
what a fucking idiot. a perfect fit for the worst franchise in sports.
Wow. Who put the gluten in your muffin today?
You know this was supposed be kind of funny and not serious, right...
The MGoBoard sucks lately.
it can be "kind of funny" (to which i would say - that's a mighty low bar for "funny") AND fucking idiotic. both things can be true.
i'd ALSO point out that the odds that this meathead has even the tiniest sense of humor are so small as to be non-existent.
but sure, pointing out that the knee-gnawing lions coach is a colossal idiot is some sort of example of how bad the board sucks lately. you know, here at the height of OT season. <eyeroll gif>
"Things John L Smith would say for $400, Alex."
Dang you. Haha nicely done.
Why can’t he just do the pooping himself? This guy is lazy.
Well thats interesting
Just - wow...
He has a way to go before he reaches the level of Jack Del Rio and the infamous axe that ended up ending his punter's season.
I got a real John L Smith feel about this. Now dont get me wrong I wont be watching because I retired from the Lions when Barry did but it should be a fun watch.
Campbell's act is already wearing thin. Less show, more business. Feels very Wayne Fontes.
If he matches Wayne Fontes's record (including the 4 playoff appearances, 2 division titles, and 1 playoff win), I wouldn't complain.
and cigars..... "l like cigars"
Monica??
All of that happened in spite of Wayne Fontes.
You know all the terrible football movies where the coach is a caricature? Yeah, the Lions actually hired one.
This guy just oozes meathead qualities. The funniest thing is to imagine him being interviewed by Sheila Ford. She must have a thing for bad boys to be impressed by this act.
Freud referred to this behavior as Id...
This is who Spielman recommended. Why not a Blue Tiger? Don’t worry, he’s only signed for 6 years.
SOL
The Lion should come out to mid field and take a dump after every game they lose. That would be a lot of dumps.
Who's got it better than us?
Yeah, I'm totally sure the lion wouldn't end up mauling some player or other Lions employee.
