OT: Dan Campbell Wants to Get a Real Lion That Will Take a Dump During Practice

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on May 17th, 2021 at 10:25 PM

He's obviously going to be just as bad as every other Lions coach ever, but man, this guy is entertaining. Whether he's serious or not, he wants to get a real pet lion to bring to practice.

“On command, you could train him like if one of your groups isn’t doing well you could just take him over to their section and just have it take a dump right there in the middle of where their section is at and then bring him on back. I mean, think about it. It’d be outstanding."

He's already my favofite Lions coach ever.

Here in Cleveland Kevin Stefanski took a slightly different approach and has totally won the team over.  Stefanski, if you dont already know is very smart, looks kinda like a young George Clooney and is not very firey or dramatic at all. In other words he's nothing like Dan Campbell.  But here is a paraphrased version of the speech he gives every new Brown when he meets them for the first time:

"Your career in the NFL will most likely be a short one.  My job, as the HC, is to put you in a position to maximize your earnings during your short career so you can make the most money you can - be it here in Cleveland or somewhere else.  If you listen to me and buy into our system I promise I will do that for you."

It's no shitting Lion or partial dismemberment but boy was THAT effective in getting the individual players to buy into his program.

The fact that you think he is “fun” or the OP thinks this is “entertaining” just shows why the Lions are the Lions.  Campbell is a clown, won’t make the Lions better, and in 1-3 years there will be a new post about the next head coach of the Lions.

PS - thank you for sending the Rams a QB.  I am sure Campbell and Goff will have an amazing synergy next year…it is going to be a beautiful mess.

Just have no idea how this guy gets through the interview process and everybody says, “yep. He’s the one.”  Hoping to be proven wrong, but I do not have high hopes.

100% this. I read the article and it just feels like another high energy guy who impresses in an interview and gets quick buy in, but doesn't have the organizational chops to get it done. At some point you have to go out and find wins and pet lions taking dumps on position groups doesn't seem like the way to do that.

The Lions got someone who is the opposite of Patricia except my guess is the number of wins over three years is going to roughly similar.

Crazy Harbaugh also had the technical chops to make a team better though. At every stop prior to Michigan, he had great QB play and an offense that worked.

Campbell doesn't seem like that type. Love the man for the energy but he's going to have to rely on his staff, it seems like. To his credit, the assistants have a ton of experience and talent it seems, multiple former head coaches, an experienced QB coach in Brunell, and an up and comer in Staley. I hope it works. With the Lions, the technicians like Patricia and Mariucci failed, and so did the rah-rah guys like Marinelli. There is obviously no clear strategy that's worked.

I'm supposed to be impressed? I've been watching the Lions take dumps for 50 years.

Personal favorite...Marty Mornhenweg taking the wind to start overtime against the Bears. Yours?

Haha!!  This guy is entertaining in a way that Rod Marinelli tried to be, wanted to be, but wasn't...  I sure do hope he's a better coach, too!

it can be "kind of funny" (to which i would say - that's a mighty low bar for "funny") AND fucking idiotic.  both things can be true.

i'd ALSO point out that the odds that this meathead has even the tiniest sense of humor are so small as to be non-existent.

but sure, pointing out that the knee-gnawing lions coach is a colossal idiot is some sort of example of how bad the board sucks lately.  you know, here at the height of OT season.  <eyeroll gif>

I got a real John L Smith feel about this. Now dont get me wrong I wont be watching because I retired from the Lions when Barry did but it should be a fun watch.

This guy just oozes meathead qualities. The funniest thing is to imagine him being interviewed by Sheila Ford. She must have a thing for bad boys to be impressed by this act.
