OT: Chiefs v. Texans NFL opening night

Submitted by uofmchris1 on September 10th, 2020 at 9:35 PM

Weird to see Arrowhead with only 18k in attendance ..Also weird to see 18k watching live sports in a stadium.

Not weird..This has a preseason vibe.

The rookie RB out of LSU for the Chiefs already looks like a veteran in that offense.

I'm in a fantasy league and I barely realized there was a game today.  Seems...fine.  Looks sort of like what a preseason game in that the teams are a little sloppy, but ah well.

I'm pretty pleased with the product.  Yeah, its a little weird when they pan into the stands but other than that it feels like it should.

A group of majority white fans in a stadium in the country handling covid the worst in the modern world, doing an offensive chant that makes a mockery of the indigenous population that was the subject of a genocide, booing a majority of black players calling attention to racism AFTER the anthem is a pretty perfect encapsulation of where we are as a country.

But yes football is happening. Yay.

I wasn’t sure, but that was booing during the stand for freedom and equality? How does anybody boo that?  Imagine how it would feel when standing up for a moment of silence for unity and equality and people boo you. That sucks.  They should have walked out. “No game for a bunch of ah racists.”

Yah, that too!  SMH.

Reminds me of a current friend who told me growing up he was the only black kid on the swim team in his nice suburban town.  At age 10 all the parents in the stands booed him when he won his first race.  Imagine how that feels.

I could care less about a few downvotes from that ilk.

The problem is average everyday people who are having these false narratives shoved down their throats... are simply tired of these lies...

1. Police are out to get black people

and

2. Systemic racism exists because of evil white people

These MOSTLY are not backwards people or hateful people. They are just tired of the lies.

You don’t create false narratives from ignorance.  The problem is not the racists, they wont change.  And the problem is certainly not the players or marchers asking to matter and asking for the support of their country.  The problem is all the people who make excuses, can’t face the truth, turn the the other cheek, and refuse to speak up in the face of injustice.  That silence is not only complicit but weak.  They deserve better. Much better.

Human rights and compassion is more important than a game.  And it’s certainly more important than your ability to enjoy your beer in front of the TV ... in ignorance.

So, Mr. BoFan, does it trouble you that the NBA doesn't appear concerned with the Human rights of Hong Kong? Or Muslims in China? I would think, given your post, that you would be very vocal in the face of this injustice?

That was tongue in check. What can any of us do to stop injustice in China/The NBA/The Police department? The only thing one can do is utilize free speech and let 320 million opinions emerge. Most will be terrible. Some will be racist. Some will be insane. Mine will be great (i joke, but seriously, everyone is entitled to my opinion, I joke). That is the cure for injustice. Speech and the defense of others' right to free speech. Make all the counter points you want, and question my intelligence all you want, but I see clear flaws in your post above. (and there are many in mine, i'm sure).

God Bless and Go Blue

Nothing I said has anything to do with the 2016 election. The point that i'm trying, and, perhaps, failing to make is that this isn't a zero-sum power game. There are an infinite number of dimensions upon which one can gain competence. String 2-3 together and that individual will have a strong opportunity to do well, without harming another's opportunity to succeed. There are those that want to make this a binary power struggle and I think that is sad and silly. I wish you well and good day.

I award very few down votes but, here, I would give you a billion if I could. The "lies" you speak of are all in your little head. And you are likely the one who negged BoFan's excellent comment, below. Good luck with contributing to making America great again.

So you play separate National Anthems for separate races and then you want unity?

Give us all a break. This 'movement' to try to segregate is toxic, identity politics is toxic.... but it's actually working sadly.

Keep it up if you want more division in our country.

You can't have two national anthems and then ask for unity.

Not sure why this is hard to understand.

And disrespecting the flag, disrespecting the anthem is deeply offensive to a lot of people.

Not sure why that is hard to understand either.

It seems as though quite a lot of people don't understand US history or world history for that matter. Where we came from and where we are now is a bloody miracle. Mistakes, and some terrible things also happened along the way. So those of us alive today living in the best of times overall, should be thankful for all those who fought and died so we can be free to do all the things we get to do today. Like make millions of dollars to play a game.
