OT: Byron Cowart, 2015's #1 overall recruit, transferring
Brian has noted on multiple occasions how much better scouting has gotten at the recruiting sites, in terms of having the top players turning into stars. This appears to be the exception.
Cowart never became a starter and recently moved inside from end. He was heavily recruited by Auburn and Florida, and came over to Auburn when Muschamp was fired at UF and became the Tigers' offensive coordinator.

Does it happen often, the 1st overall recruit being transfered ? I've the D. Green-Beckham transfer in mind although he only played for the scout team

Signed with USC (YTUSC), transferred to Miami (YTM).
September 19th, 2017 at 3:40 PM ^
True, but he was immediately released from his letter of intent pending the results of the Reggie Bush investigation.

But how does this correlate with our offensive struggles?

Should this topic have it's own thread? I haven't heard this one today.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:34 PM ^
I think the board prefers the word "woes" in this situation.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:41 PM ^
Yes. And they "continue" sometimes. Woes continue.
September 19th, 2017 at 2:37 PM ^
But this weekend, the WHOA'S begin.
AM I RIGHT?!
September 19th, 2017 at 4:50 PM ^

Did I miss any?
September 19th, 2017 at 1:00 PM ^
It's happening!
September 19th, 2017 at 1:10 PM ^
Damn, i laughed out loud on that one.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:06 PM ^
Que?
Sorry couldn't resist.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:22 PM ^
Honestly, just the letter "Q" would have been less egregious....
September 19th, 2017 at 3:15 PM ^
You what's amazing? I made the same. damn. stupid. error last time I made a pithy observation like that one.
Same word.
Same fucked up spelling of word.
Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue, Queue,
September 19th, 2017 at 5:28 PM ^
I suppose "Queue" makes some sort of sense, but I agree that "Cue" is correct. The derivation is from stage/theater direction as in "cue the lead actor for his final scene."

Que the que person who is first to sarcastically point all of those out?
I kid, I kid...
September 19th, 2017 at 1:08 PM ^
Come on man, you can't post this after the first person has already sarcastically pointed them out!
September 19th, 2017 at 1:12 PM ^
Got me by a matter of seconds.
...I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids!

Technically he was not the consensus #1 overall recruit. Composite #1 that year was Trent Thompson who is starting at DT for Georgia this year.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:40 PM ^
I think the analysis the OP is referring to is that about 80 percent of five stars get drafted or something like that.
Yes, he's a high five star so the odds might be more like 90 percent, but that still means that we would expect about one top 10 recruit per year to not pan out as productive in college, and this guy might be one of them.
But he's still a junior. If he wants to play somewhere, he could still put it together a la Will Campbell to get drafted and make some money as a pro. Incidentally, I just looked up Big Will and he's playing as an offensive tackle (!!!) in the CFL. Crazy.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
And, FWIW, it looks like his mom is sick back in Florida, so perhaps expect a transfer it UCF, USF or FAU.
September 19th, 2017 at 2:28 PM ^
they also have Armanti Edwards and Johnny Sears...
I hate the Toronto Argonauts, apparently.
September 19th, 2017 at 2:25 PM ^
Was strolling through the 247 composite for 2015...lotta misses in there. That class in general is a good reminder of why you shouldn't get caught up in rankings. I mean...just look at the QBs:
1. Josh Rosen
2. Blake Barnett
3. Kyler Murray
4. Jarrett Stidham
5. Brandon Wimbush
Notable others:
Sam Darnold (12), Zach Gentry (14), Alex Malzone (20), Lamar Jackson (27), Kelly Bryant (29)
Michigan had TWO(!!) QBs ranked higher that the Heisman winner and Clemson's current stud QB.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:43 AM ^
Most of them are RsSo., so they still have time to make an impact, especially the ones that transferred, and fell off the radar because of sitting out.
I think Josh Rosen's ranking as the top QB was warranted since he was the most college-ready QB in the class, and scouts still talk about him as a potential top-5 pick in the upcoming draft.
Jarrett Stidham and Brandon Wimbush are both RsSo. 3 games into their first year as starters for their respective teams.
Kyler Murray looks like the next in line to run Lincoln Riley's offense at Oklahoma once Baker Mayfield graduates.
Blake Barnett was beaten out by Jalen Hurts and transferred, but could still put it together at ASU after he sits out the year.
September 20th, 2017 at 7:25 AM ^
#35 to OSU.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:04 PM ^
It's hard to believe the sites could miss so badly from a talent perspective. Were there behaviorial or injury issues that kept him from starting?
September 19th, 2017 at 1:09 PM ^
I don't know...but after all these years, I finally started watching The Office. I'm currently in season 4 of my binge watching and I appreciate your username to the max.
I laugh everytime you or Toby Flenderson make a post. I'm just 10 years late to get the joke.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:11 PM ^
And The Office is a great show to take a break from for 5 years and come back to. Its funny all over again.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
I can see that...because the jokes are still relative to whoever most resembles the personality of the characters at that point in your life.
But enough The Office talk, this isn't OT season and I'm afraid we may get in trouble. I'll see you in late January and we can continue this conversation.

What do you think of the British version?
September 19th, 2017 at 1:55 PM ^
The US version is crap in comparison.
September 19th, 2017 at 4:52 PM ^
I agree. This British version is also darker and more raw. Gervais is a genius.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
I haven't watched that version yet
September 19th, 2017 at 2:00 PM ^
is brilliant. He plays that role perfectly. The supporting cast is really good too.
Haven't watched the US version because I get the feeling I'm never going to give it a chance after how good the UK version is.
September 19th, 2017 at 2:10 PM ^
The British version of The Office is amazing. Extras is also brilliant.
September 19th, 2017 at 1:35 PM ^
Well, shit. I didn't realize there was a joke until now.Obviously, I haven't spent any time watching the Office.
