Probably a good idea for the kid

MOD EDIT: To combine the OSU-related news, we'll continue the Shazier discussion, which started here but became its own thread, in this one. - LSA

Not yet an nfl qb in my opinion...good runner but when you look at their passing offense, most of his throws seemed to come off play-action or slow developing routes...when does he make nfl throws consistently?

also want to state how lucky (again) osu is getting in him returning because, as said, the game made it sound like he was leaving on going pro for family reasons AND he was getting crushed. Unless osu Jucos like crazy, their OL, backfield will be worse (assumed based in experience and what worked so well the last two years) and his WR corp would be about the same, imo. He had taken absolute shots his entire career. During the game/season I'd have bet the two would have done the opposite if I were a betting man. Finally, by lucky I man that osu had no proven returning QB had he gone pro. Urban, not in a hating easy for once, might have begged him to come back. His alternative was a freshman (I assume they signed one this class) or "I didn't go to osu to play school" Cardale Jones. From all reports I've heard, he is not an off-season away from ready. So, again, how lucky.....geesh. Like they just wish it so and it happens.

They have JT Barrett who is supposed to be pretty good. However, I think Braxton coming back will cover up for a young inexperienced line. Elliot, who is replacing Hyde, is highly touted but running behind a new line. I think all the new WRs that Urban has brought in will be better than what theyve had. Again, I think the biggest benefit for OSU is that Braxton will hide an inexperienced line. Braxton is OSUs Denard.

I don't think he will ever be an NFL Qb, not a full time starter anyways, but he has a better chance if he leaves now as opposed to staying. He'll get NFL coaching sooner and break bad habits faster. But there are positives to staying - degree, cementing OSU legacy, chance to win trophies etc

At this point he is a late round pick and would be much more likely to be cut if he can't perform. When you are a late round pick the team has nothing invested in you and less likely to wait around for your potential to be achieved, especially in a win now or be fired league.

Problem is, I don't think his draft stock as a Qb is every going to improve. So if he wants to be  a Qb, he needs to leave now and get some NFL tutoring. I think if he stays another year, he'll be drafted as an athlete like Denard. All depends on what the kid wants.

And I don't think anybody drafting him as a Qb is going to cut him unless he's just woeful. They're going to draft him knowing he's a long term project.

Do you think he will be a QB in the nfl? I think his elusiveness in small spaces is great and his acceleration is really good too. To me it seems like he would make a pretty good RB

The senior OL he and Hyde enjoyed is going to the NFL...that ought to get him some more opportunities to run away from trouble.

Adversity is coming to other programs too.

Ohio has some fanbase issues with their defense over the last 3 games.  In contrast, Our fanbase is well-beaten at this point and doesn't raise such a ruckus.  We are on the hunt for optimisim! 8-)

Has that qb switch ever really worked out? Pat White, Matt Jones, Tebow...those are some of the failed attempts. Any successes I can't think of right now?

Hines Ward

From wikipedia (I know, but this is not the most academic post):

Ward played some quarterback his sophomore year, and holds Georgia bowl records for pass attempts, pass completions, and passing yards in the 1995 Peach Bowl in which he completed 31 of 59 passes for 413 yards.

Someone always brings up Ward when the QB to WR switch gets mentioned. Ward played a few games at QB his sophmore year. That's it. He held a bunch of all time Georgia receiving records when he entered the NFL. Totally different situation than a player with little or no experience at WR. The guy Miller reminds me of most as a college QB/NFL prospect is Matt Jones (hopefully without the coke problems).

He did complete 22/28 passes (16/18 for the Steelers!) with 6 TDs. Mostly he was a speedy all-round athlete and solid football player. I don't see Miller lining up at receiver much, though - he'd seem to be more a running back kind of guy who can throw some, and I doubt he's prototypical enough to excite a lot of NFL teams in that role.
