OT: Ben Affleck Schadenfreude (re Batman v Superman)

Submitted by 74polSKA on

I have not seen Batman Vs Superman. I have no opinion regarding how Zack Snyder may or may not have ruined the movie. However, I do have an irrational dislike of Ben Affleck and enjoyed this video of him having a sad immensely. If you are a jerk like me, enjoy. Or discuss the movie, whether or not you will/have seen it, etc. NO SPOILERS!!!

He's okay as an actor. Definitely had some good moments in Gone Girl and Good Will Hunting, but I definitely am partial to his skills as a director.

I don't hate on the guy whatsoever. Just like him in some areas more than others.

He's probably on a soul search because he turned in a great individual performance amidst a terrible script and overbearing direction. No way anyone walks away from this film remembering him.

I can't call it the pinnacle. Dark Knight was perfect. Begins was ok. Rises was a let down. As far as DC movies go, I agree that the Trilogy was the best. Superhero movies as a whole belong to Marvel/Disney, Spider-Man 1&2(Maguire), X-Men 1&2, Burton's 1989 Batman and Superman 1&2.

Movie not as bad as the reviewers if you understand the feel of the Miller comic. I do think Snyder is a mediocre (AT BEST) director.

Affleck was best part of the film, hands down.

Wonder Woman completely irrelevant, totally pasted on. Gadot's performance was about as dramatic as her presence on the movie poster. In fact, they could have just put a poster up for her scenes.

Cavill is a walking Superman costume.  Only marginally more relevant that Gadot's Wonder Woman.

So, "B" grade for the movie. "A" for Affleck. "C" for Snyder, Cavill, and Gadot.

A+++ for the comic book.

They've got a lot invested in Wonder Woman with her own movie next year and a two part Justice League series coming out after that. I viewed her appearance more as a teaser for those movies. I did get a good 45 minute nap during the movie.

I haven't seen it yet either, but my wife and I are on the fence about seeing it in the theatre or waiting until it is on Amazon just based on the reviews. This tweet seems to sum it up well so far, based on some of my reading today:

I thought it was ok.  Like many have said, not the worst, not the best (by any streatch).  There were a few head scratching moments that I think will probably be cleared up in the director's cut, or a sequel.  I did not like Lex Luther at all.  Seemed more like a crazy eccentric than a diabolical mastermind.  Leaned more towards "Joker" crazy.  If you go into it comparing it to a Marvel movie, you will hate it.  It also seemed more like a "Batman" movie than a "Superman" movie.  Affleck, I thought, was really good as Bruce Wayne/Batman.  I have always like Ben as an actor since Chasing Amy, Dazed and Confused, Mallrats, etc.  I also think the trailers for this movie gave away too much of the plot twists and turns.

Seeing how Affleck probably knows more about Batman than all of us combined there's no doubt he played it well. Say what you will of him it's probably been his dream role since he was a child.
That said Man Of Steel was god awful and I don't plan to pay money to see this movie.

I have seen it twice. The movie has its issues. Affleck as Bruce or Batman is by far the best part. He is a very good Bruce/Batman. Alfred was also quite good. Those two really nailed it.

Even the user score on Rotten Tomatoes is dropping. Now down to 74% when it was like 84. Critic score of 30%.

If this doesn't make WB/DC fire that worthless director Snyder then there is no hope for DC and JL.

This is coming with love from a Polish Brother, but starting a thread making fun of an actors performance in a movie by stating that you didn't even see the movie yet might be the most stupid ass thing you did this week. At least I hope it was.

Just watched it. Affleck was the best part in my opinion. Looking forward to the individual Batman movies. He will direct them instead of Snyder as well.

Usually post drunk and absurd comments but... cant stand benifer in his roles. Though I have to say he knocked this role out of the park. I liked the dark edge of this movie. It did seem to drag out but yet not have enough time to tell the story. Contradicting itself but this movie was better than I thought itd be and recommend people to go watch it with a clear head. I was really surprised by it. Good movie

The actors portrayal of the characters were believable enough. I didn't mind Aflek as Batman although he was mostly Bruce Wayne the entire movie. The real problem was the movie plot was boring. It wasn't entertaining at all. Batman and Superman maybe fought for 2 mins, which was the highlight, but it took seemingly forever to even get to that bit.

All of this ignores the fact that Superman would kill Batman in about 3 tenths of a second.

This movie, and the entire premise behind it is bullshit.

I don't care how cool batman is. He's a normal human.

My spot review: Disney has NOTHING to be worried about. Ultimately it comes down to the characters, and these are bland and uninteresting. Wonder Woman clearly has a story to tell (gee they should make a movie about her???) but I am given no reason to root for her emotionally. Batman is the usual brooding, boring, unlikable type. Superman jumped the shark in this one -- oof that was a bad choice, and its also just not credible. Luthor is totally without motivation other than "crazy."

The plot is fulll of cheap tricks and shortcuts. How do you motivate a good guy to do something bad? Kidnap a loved one. The ending is, ugh, just a play on emotional heartstrings -- and I dont think they (DC) are serious about it, they are going to undo it. Afroementioned shark-jump. Insane bad guy, not a well-motivated one. Frankly the entire premise of the movie is Batman fighting Superman; you get 2 minites of that and 2 hours 29 minutes of not that; so the entire film is a bait-and-switch. These should be traits of B-movies, not billion-dollar movies. Its deplorable.

Otoh... Suicide Squad looks kinda cool! And I dont say that only because Margo Robbie is in it.

Me, I'm hoping Cap 3 wipes this bad taste out of my mouth.
