Thumbs up to rolling the dice on 7 footers!
that hair...
Summer league means almost zero when projecting NBA success. In particular, skilled guys who may not be NBA-level athletes can rip it up in summer league, because the best athletes aren't playing. I'm not saying that Olynyk won't be successful; only that you shouldn't read too much into him looking awesome. He could turn into another Nowitzki, but he could also be another Adam Morrison.
I want Trey to succeed, and I was just as angry. Honestly, he's better off since he's not cursed by playing for a team that's management is struggling, and owner who doesn't seem to care much more than to show off to his buddies.
I might be the only one, but I'm really tired of reading the Burke Whining.
Lucious is summer league filler, nothing more.
State transferred out. If anything, he should want nothing to do with Lucious since he left early. It's probably best to wait until training camp before taking a real cautious look at the roster and results on the summer league court. There's a bust of Austin Daye in the summer league hall of fame. Sadly, that's not the only time Austin Daye and bust have been used in the same sentence.
It's easier to find that third guard if you don't have to put a size constraint on it.
I now have ONE reason to consider tuning in to watch a Piston's game, and that's to see if Sheed blows a gasket and gets T'd up by the officials.
but of course the criticism on him, especially his last few years with the Pistons, is he didn't post up enough and hung out around the 3 point line too much. That of course is in the past and was as a player. It's going to be very interesting how he can transition as a coach. He's a likable guy but what is management expecting him to bring to the coaching table besides just "relating to the players"? We'll find out.
To clarify: the knock on him was that he was one of the best post-players in the NBA and did not post up enough. He has the skills, technique, and basketball mind to offer a lot to Monroe and Drummond as they develop their offensive games.
Sheed was damn good in the post...when he posted up. As long as he doesn't coach our bigs to camp out at the 3-point line most of the time like he had a tendency to do as a player, he could teach our bigs some of his post game.
You know... THAT Peyton Siva.
Granted, it was way later in the draft and probably a good value at that spot. But still, c'mon Joe. EDIT: Whoops. Meant in response to the post mentioning Korie Lucious.
No. ****.
The CBS story (HERE) has the key quote, I think:
"But mostly, this is wonderful for the continued presence of Sheed in our lives, and the high probability that he will set the record for assistant coach ejections ... in the first month of the season."
In all seriousness, having someone like Wallace work with the Pistons' bigs is not a bad idea, I would say. I believe he worked some with Jermaine O'Neal and Zach Randolph and this turned out quite well for them, so there is definitely that. The Pistons defensive rebounding and shooting defense were lower-middle in the NBA rankings, but I would think Wallace can make an impact here.
This time around, more like bench don't lie.
Technical fouls called on the bench just tripled for this upcoming season
