I accidently killed all the vegetation in my back yard once due to some irrational exuberance with Round Up on my part.

i had the 4 youngest outside by the corn field pulling weeds for an hour before dinner. they did a good job. and got fed....

I started that series last month. I'm through season 3 but now it's losing steam. I haven't watched in 2 weeks. Shame because Mary Louise Parker ..... nnnnggghhh
At first I thought you wrote that they "got fired" and was concerned of the implications of getting fired from a family. Of course, with child labor, you get what you pay for :P
actually, they do a pretty decent job and no complaining either. they had just finished the barn chores so it was work time anyway.
Because Round Up is some of the worst shit you can put in the soil. It's basically Agent Orange.
Spend the extra 30 seconds out there lazy asses and pull the damn weed.

Roundup is fucking awesome. Although I use boiling water on the weeds in my garden before I plant each spring. That works pretty good too.

I typically weed whack all around the house/trees and fences. This year, I thought "hey, let's use roundup along the fence."
I now have a 1 foot wide zone of scorched earth on both sides of every fence. I wont have to weed whack (or mow next to the fence) for 2-3 years it looks like. All the dead grass is turning to dirt.
When it gets in one's garden, just think of what it does to your insides after consuming food from that garden.
I wonder if you could modify a bottle capper to pull difficult weeds. It closes down on the cap and then pushed hard enough to bend the metal. Upside down, could it clamp on a weed and pull it up?

and bailed out. Bought a neat little Black and Decker weed whip, rechargeable nicad battery that uses twisted string, and it is an absolute rock star. Quiet and really efficient, and was like $100 at TSC.
I have 2 gas trimmers that both suck. This isn't quite as powerful, but it's quiet.
I guess that also minimizes the chance of me disrupting my office with new baby talk.
