If I was a former prostitute, would that prevent me from receiving an interview? Asking for a friend.

I've been a programmer for 12 years and I've never heard of Crestron as a programming language.

Its possible I misunderstand the context of what you're saying.

That said, these threads should always be allowed or we should have a new section for stuff that can really impact the lives of people on this blog.  Getting a new job when you're looking is hard.

Agree that it's nice to have tangible goodness come from unexpected places (e.g. job from a posting on mgoblog). If any Wolverines out there are looking for work, I ended up finding my luck from meeting someone at an alumni event in my west coast city. Just another avenue for finding employment if people haven't tried it yet.

whats the best "first" language to learn, from a resume/employment propect standpoint? I have an IT degree. I have my MCSA and A+ certifications. Im tired of being a support desk jockey though.  Any insight you'd care to share would be appreciated

I was thinking Java just because its everywhere, but Id love some informed opinions

Reading programming job listing is a mishmash of really boring jobs.

Of course, the flip side is there are tons of openings that tend to pay really well, so complaining about them being boring is probably not a problem people in most other industries will allow much sympathy for us.

Crestron programmer is, but I do post some pretty funny things on this site.  So if the job pays for relocation and at least 95k I'll take it.

But not until after we beat OSU and MSU.

my worst job experience ever was at a shop that specialized in MUMPS programming.  I was hired to do their front-end programming in C# but then 6 months in they tried to tell me that I had to learn MUMPS and start doing work in that.  I told them that wasn't part of the deal when I was hired.

Needless to say things did not end well.   Serves me right for taking a tech job with a company in the middle of Indiana.  I knew I was in trouble when they actually enforced a dress code.  Never again.

I was a mostly remote worker so I ignored the warning signs.  They had an on-site dress code of button up-shirt and slacks.  I thought that was REALLY odd for a tech company, but since I was remote 90% of the time, I said "whatever" and too the job anyway.  They were paying decent and I happened to need a job at that moment as the startup I had been working for was not working out.

I knew I had made a mistake 30 minutes into the onboarding orientation.  They spent more time talking about ISO certification processes and other nonsense than they did talking about anything software development related.   Needless to say, they had a serious stick up their @$$ about all kinds of really silly things, yet completely dropped the ball on most things that actually were important to developing quality software, like, oh, having any design, specs, or a QA department.   But if anyone dared show up for a meeting less than 5 minutes EARLY, oh there was hell to pay.

Ugh, I'm getting a migraine just thinking about that place.
