I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but the player receiving the cash in that video is a Junior who will likely be declaring for the NFL draft any time.

And since the season ended when that game finished, is this even a violation any more if he's never playing in another NCAA game? I mean he could literally drop out of school and just prepare for the draft at this point, it doesn't matter anymore.

In the context of the video, I think the reaction would be the same regardless of school. Unless you're asking about the reaction of the NCAA.

In that case, I bet they make sure the player didn't keep the cash and if he did then they might ask for him to pay it back like they did with James Wiseman.

I’m sure Nike sent them to LSU! Same way I’m sure Oklahoma was probably gifted Blake Griffins’ shoe for the whole hoop squad. This is just talking points for those “keep amateurism pure” people. OBJ hands both those kids a rather small amount of cash. If Kirklin plays next season he will “pay it back” and all will be well. I just don’t get the uproar some ppl cause by acting like this is some major crime.

It’s pretty astonishing how open it’s become. Not even trying to hide it anymore. I’ve been pretty firm in the don’t cheat by paying them under the table camp but I’m really struggling to justify it at this point. How are we supposed to compete against that? It’s like being in a league where half the teams have no salary cap and the other half aren’t allowed to spend money.

Isnt that Jefferson the WR who will definitely go pro? I think he doesn’t give two shits about NCAA regulations at this point

But heres the reality of it, noone cares if LSU cheats. The sports media doesn’t care. They dont shit where they eat. The public either believes that everyone cheats or noone cheats unless explicitly sanctioned by the NCAA. The NCAA relies solely on people coming forward and noone in the state of Louisiana is dumb enough to rain on LSU’s parade. In other words, its irrelevant, noone will ever talk about it.

There is no - zero - incentive to not do as they do.

A good example of this was when Ryan Perrilloux was at LSU when Miles was still around. You may remember this story: https://www.espn.com/college-football/news/story?id=2880731

The real story behind it was that LSU had a wink wink deal with the casino where players knew which tables and which dealers to go to - and surprise surprise - LSU players would somehow always win. A great way to funnel some money to players without raising suspicion.

It blew up in LSU's face when the bouncer that day didn't recognize Perrilloux to let him in. Perrilloux had to take the fall. But we never heard another word about it and no one in Louisiana would rat anyone out on the scheme.

As I've said multiple times before (but I like saying it so i'm going to say it again).  When it comes to recruiting Michigan is the living embodiment of a 90 year old women, driving 45 MPH in the left lane of the freeway, yelling at everyone to slow down as she's passed on the right.

Perhaps Jefferson loaned OBJ some cash in a time of need, and it was a convenient time to pay him back with a slight amount of interest!

Assume positive intent y'all!

Yea, no one cares.  I guess some old people yelling at clouds care, but most people don't.  I don't.  I wish Brady would do this.

If #13 does come back for his senior year, LSU will claim he gave the money back, the NCAA will nod and say ok, and nothing will happen.

NCAA is, essentially, a cash printing machine. They love cash.  And they aren't about to kick themselves in the nuts and give themselves a huge paycut by making the SEC (or Online State, or OU) less competitive.

What I would give for Woodson and Brady to one day hand out cash to our players after winning a national championship on live TV.

They might be 75 years old at the time, but I’d still enjoy it.
