None of these games are worth watching until 5:00 in the 4th quarter.  Probably not even then.

Looks like I'll get both chores and leftover work done today.

For anybody that knows Rugby rules, i have 3 questions:

1) What are they trying to accomplish by kicking the ball forward when they are already moving down the field nicely?  They wind up giving up possession when they were advancing well.

2) What are the rules after a tackle?  Sometimes the opposition goes aggressively after the ball after a tackle, other times they just watch passively while the team that got tackled just casually flips the ball backward and continues their drive.

3) Are you always required to keep pitching the ball from the inside out toward the sideline?  It seems like some of those pitches would be ripe for a counter pitch in the other direction, but they never do that.  Once they start pitching toward the right sideline, they keep pitching to the right sideline.  Once they start pitching toward the left sideline, they keep pithcing toward the left sideline.

The key in rugby is possession and field position. Both of which you are seeing on full display in this game.

1) Why Kick? Pooching forward has a couple advantages. If you have the speed you can get the ball back. Also it changes the field position so even if the other team gets the ball back you have the opp to win the ball back  and that opp is now on their side of the field.

2) What are the rules after a tackle?  This is the best explanation. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/rules_and_equipment/4204012.stm

3) Pitching: You can go inside toss but that is putting the ball back into traffic and the possibility of a knock (fumble forward), turnover is greater than going out to the wings and keeping possession.

In the Diary summary on the front page I posted a call for Harbaugh to put in a Gentry package asap. To balance out the QB classes and to make the team potentially better thus year.
I won't repeat the entire thing here, but I will say Auburn's TD was exactly the type of play I visualize running for Gentry.

Before Purdue somehow discovered that it is possible to take advantage of a misstep by the offensive line, their entire notion of tackling in space on this drive has been to attempt to convince the opposing rusher / receiver that it is best if they slow down and conserve energy and decide if they really want to score a touchdown now.
