What and where are the best sports bars for Michigan sports fans. I nominate Duffy's Tavern and Grille in Chicago. I have never (even in AA) been to a better atmosphere to watch Michigan play at a bar. (they even have former band members playing and they are actually loud).
Nominate Best MICHIGAN Bars for games
is a great place to watch a game in NYC (especially for the younger crowd). May not match Duffy's (I've been there too), but it's still packed with Michigan fans on gameday. You would be hard pressed to spot a single person who doesn't have a Michigan t-shirt on.
Good atmosphere, particularly without the annoying aftertaste of other team's fans. Metro 53 is beginning to get somewhere with game watching in NYC but definitely more of a manhattan spin.
I was a big fan of 'The Place' in Boston. Packed with Michigan fans and the bartender (Andre) was great. Free buffet food sponsored by the alumni club too.
I like the Arena in Ann Arbor. Because I can walk to and from there no matter how smashed I am and they always have good beer on tap and decent food.
This was the bar I frequented all too often (waaaay too often) when I went to school and lived in Ann Arbor. Wasn't much of a Skeepers or Rick's guy because I worked at a restaurant on Main Street. The Arena was the place to be for the Main St. Ventures crowd....love the people there and still stop by every once in a while when I'm in town.
In Chicago is my favorite Michigan bar as well....definitely top notch.
Went to a bball game once at Duffy's and the hip hop was louder than the TVs and my friends put together. Maybe it's not always annoying but I only have 1 minute of experience there.
If you want awesome pizza and strong in house brews, Piece in Chicago always has a pro-Michigan crowd. I personally like being able to see the expressions on the opposing fans' faces. There were a couple Domers there a couple weeks ago.
Thanks. I had no idea they were pro Michigan bar. I've only been there for Pizza. I'll have to check them out.
Duffy's is great for a game in Chicago. Buffalo Billiards gets a HUGE UofM crowd in DC.
I live in southern ohio and if there was a pro michigan bar around here,it would get burned to the ground.
I appreciate what PBB&G is attempting, but I feel they fall short on the gameday experience. I feel like PBB&G tries to cater to too large an audience, and alienates everyone. On some weekends, it feels like it's the Michigan/Tennesee/USC alumni bar instead of settling on one team.
Also, if you're going to be the UM San Diego sponsored alumni bar, please schedule adequate wait staff for kickoff. I'm sick of waiting 45 minutes into the game to get my first beverage order at the outside bar. I understand that on most weeks it's 9:00am PST, but that's the price you pay to be THE alumni bar.
Duffy's is decent but that place can be packed and/or irritating. Matilda is a normal bar every day of the week except Saturdays during college football when it turns into a Michigan football sports bar. Good atmosphere, decent food, good beer selection (you can get Oberon!) and not too crowded.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a decent place in the Bay area to watch with M fans. The Alumni site says Press Box is the place but its 30 miles from my house and I drink too much to make that drive on game day. Any one know a place in St. Petersburg?
I live in Palm Harbor, so the Press Box is kind of a hike for me too! Wish there was someplace on the beach...I would make the drive for that...I know a lot of Michigan fans watch the games at Mugs on Missouri in Clearwater. If you hear of anywhere else, please let me know...there are a lot of us Wolverines down here in the Sunshine State representin!
Stool Pigeons in downtown Charlotte, NC is a great place to watch the game.
