I understand the draft pick component side of the Stafford trade but I don’t understand what the point is of bringing in a qb that’s really struggled the last two years and giving him nothing to work with offensively. Like seriously, what’s the end goal with that?

The 10 and 5 are dead money - meaning the Rams (and lions by virtue of trading for him) decided to spread his signing bonus out over multiple years to lessen the upfront cap hit. Therefore, the only way the Lions get away from the 10 & 5 is to trade him, otherwise Goff keeps the entirety of his signing bonus and 15 million of it was already allocated to the 2023 and 2024 season. So yes, they wouldn’t owe him any additional money if they cut him after 2022 but they’re not simply walking away from him either.

Lions are going to have a ton of cap space so they can absorb the hire you mention relatively painlessly. They needed a QB so might as take a shit with Goff.

But yes, not taking a WR was stupid. They gave Goff no shot. Not that he has been good.

Anyways,  the entire team is a hot mess. Okudah being a bust is an absolute killer.

I was actually somewhat impressed with the Lions so far until the last 3 minutes haha. Going to be a long season but there's no expectations when you have no WR's.

What QBs in college should the Lions draft if they end up with a top 3 pick next year?

No surprises from the Lions so far. Offense is ok, just lacking playmakers in the passing game outside of Hockenson. Defense is absolutely atrocious, but that was known.

49ers with 11 YPA and 7.6 YPC and their drive chart looks like this:

Fumble

Touchdown

Touchdown

Touchdown

Field Goal

with the pick-six thrown in there too.

What a joke

Thinking about all those on here who thought Goff was just as good as Stafford and believed the trade was anything other than an attempt to increase the Lions' chances of getting the first pick in 2022.

The point of the trade was to get as many first rounders for Stafford as possible. The Rams were so desperate to get rid of Goff that they were willing to throw in a third first round pick for the Lions to take him. Plus, with the defense playing this poorly, it’s not like it even matters if Goff is any good.

It's goddamn bullshit that the goddamn Ford family keeps shoving this bullshit down our throats and we keep accepting it.

There is not a more inept franchise in all of sports.

Everyone knew this was gonna be a project, Patty and Quinn absolutely ran this team into the ground.

I still laugh when last year Valenti (yeah I know) talked about how it would be better for them to start and empty propane tank instead of whoever was one of the starting corners.

Hopefully they pull one or two wins out of their ass, because this about one if the worst teams I've ever seen.

edit: It was Jalani Tavai at middle linebacker, whos now on the Patriots practice squad.
