Dan Villari is a New York pro style QB who is 6’4 and 215.  His offers include UMass, Albany, Fordham, and Buffalo.  Sam Webb reports it’s an official visit.  Dan is currently not ranked on 24/7.

I simply don't understand why we won't offer Jayden de Laura from St. Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- He comes from a HS which has produced Marcus Mariota and Tua Tagovailoa.
- He is basically putting up significantly better numbers than Mariota did in HS.
- He's a great fit for our new offense. And the eye test confirms it upon closer inspection. (His HS runs some nice stuff.)
- And we have one of Jayden de Laura's WR teammates (Roman Wilson) committed!

I just don't get it.

Hoping one of our highly rated QBs shines...but the transfer QB trend is still interesting...

LSU needed a back-up Ohio State QB to make it to the playoffs, Ohio State needed a back-up Georgia QB to make it to the playoffs, and Oklahoma needed a back-up Alabama QB to make it to the playoffs.  All 3 transfers nominated for the Heisman this year.

Geezus fucking Pete.

ed: Not trying to put down the young man. Just disappointed because I liked what I saw from JD Johnson.

With the caveat of only seeing 12 minutes of this kid, it looks like he’s going to have to overcome a tendency to lock onto his receivers and need to work on seeing the whole field.

This tendency usually gets better with more study, time, and reps in an offense. However, for the younger board members, this was the single biggest weakness that held back Chad Henne from becoming a great QB. Despite four years of reps with the first team, he went into the NFL with this tendency and has essentially been a career backup as a result.

That said, Dan does seem to have the physical tools to be a D1 quarterback somewhere.

Yeah that was me. Terrible post on my part. However, context matters. MSU didn't have a QB commit the year before, and they have nothing after. This is a filler, where we got three 4 star commits in a row, and have a 5 star the year after. Plus half of MSU's commits are not even in the top 1,000. So, really no comparison.

Caveats about competition aside, if the HUDL page had said he was a 4-star from Mater Dei with offers from Stanford, USC, Oregon, OK, PSU, and VA I wouldn't have questioned it, based on his highlights.

Holy, crap -- what a highlight video!  Awesome passes.  Awesome running and spotting gaps and following blocks.  Some acrobatic moves.  Even him doing some blocking and tackling.

I remember watching Sainristil's highlight reel and thinking that he'd be great and was enormously underrated.

I get the same feeling here.

I would be very happy for this guy to be a Wolverine.

That's a worst-case scenario.  He's perfect for this class: could turn into a great QB, but seems like his floor is as a TE or even a wildcat QB.  He's quick enough, strong enough, and fast enough to be a threat in D1 football at multiple positions.  Love his confidence, contact courage, and athleticism.

But let's discount the possibility he can grow into a starting QB either.  He's got tools and some kids just pop late.

This guy's assessment is similar: not sure if he is a QB as a DI athlete, but he is a DI athlete.  Note that since his name first popped up three weeks ago, he led his team to a Long Island Championship, wherein he ran for 300 yards and 4 TDs, had 2 passing TDs, and apparently played some defense as well.

So....

Could he be more of a Vicious Vic type kid, but who still has the potential to work out?

I mean, if we don’t have a QB in the class at all, and presuming we still have 5 star JJ coming in 2021, this might actually be a good use of a scholarship last minute. Especially if either McCaffrey or Milton transfers out after spring & we reel in a seasoned grad transfer QB as another depth option, having a “break in case of emergency, but if not, convert to a TE bruiser H Back type guy” might be pretty handy.

Diamond in the rough. Big arm. Sneaky fast. The offer list is misleading, pay no attention to that. He may not start as a freshman but he could provide real depth and win the job or grad transfer as an upperclassman. Would be a good add.
