NCAA evening games
Not much else looking too exciting or close except Liberty/MissSt. Other later games look to be more competitive.
NDSU looking good. Duke isn't really all that great, in my opinion. I would have rather gotten MSU's region (assuming chalk). Zags got dudes and experience, which usually is the recipe for tourney success.
Obviously Zion is a human highlight reel, but this team's best performance was their first game and haven't really gotten close to that since.
I've watched them at full strength a good amount and it's never anything amazing. And VT beat them with Zion out, but VT was missing their best player too. So I could see them beating Duke
There's really only been 1 true "One and Done" team to win it all in recent history, and that was the 2015 Duke team that was much better offensively. 2012 Kentucky had quite a few veterans on their team
Serious question...
Does Coach K actually coach anymore or is he just wandering around out there a la senile Paterno?
March 22nd, 2019 at 10:01 PM ^
completely senile from huffing all that black shoe polish he puts in his hair
If you force Duke to take jump shots, you can keep it a close game. Good game plan so far.
Krzyzewski is underperforming at this point in his career. One of the most talented teams in the tourney in the last 10-20 years and yet barely ahead of a 16 seed with very “supportive” officiating.
Tracy W should ask, “Coach, how many 5 stars do you need to outcoach the opposition?”
Let’s go Cyclones!
Good lord Coach K sounds and looks like he's 80
A 72 year old who has about 45 years of college basketball head coach stress on him... makes sense that he looks/sounds 80.
Coach K needs to retire.
Watching these games makes me feel like sometimes refs feel like they need to blow their whistle because it’s been a couple possessions without one. We wouldn’t the game to get into any sort of flow. That wouldn’t be fun to watch.
Feels like a 20-2 Duke run is inevitable.
What are the winning numbers for tomorrow’s drawing?
They were just so much more athletic, it didn't take much analysis to figure this out. I felt the same way about UVA late in the first half even though they were still down six. Unlike last year, they were pretty clearly taking control.
Sadly, this has been an incredibly underwhelming MM so far.
You have years like this with an occasional upset, but everything else has been blah.
And then you have years where you do not know which channel to watch because everything is bananas.
was just thinking the same. we've yet to see the really big upset that makes the first 2 days memorable. we'll see if we get one tonight
I'm with ya there. All the "upsets" so far were somehow entirely unsurprising. Did anyone NOT expect Murray St. or UC Irvine to win?
No buzzer-beaters either, or even games decided on missed buzzer-beaters.
A couple of missed free throws is about it.
As much as I dislike all things SEC, I really don't want Falwell's university to win anything ever.
Also, ignoring politics, they hired all the rape protecting Baylor admins.
i don't know about that, but given that MSU (NTMSU) almost certainly bought all their players, i find it pretty easy to root for the liberty kids on the court, a 12 vs. a 5. that's what the tournament is all about.
Agree. I like their coach and I’m a fan of Lynchburg, Va... so ?? Liberty!!!
Agree. But at least Liberty no longer officially forbids interracial dating. The arc of history is long. . .
What a boring first round. Every game that has a chance to be interesting down the stretch gets blown wide open. No close, down to the wire games. Hopefully this weekend is better.
Careful what you ask for . . .
Enjoying the games as always. Two early observations: 1.) Realized that, just like CBS and ESPN, I’m rooting for a team that finished 3rd in a power conference, has won 29 games, and has lost three games to non rivals all season, and 2.) I’m confused about AT&T telling me “just OK is not OK” during the commercial break and then coming back out of said break to see “One of” the best high-flying plays of the game sponsored by AT&T
I keep channel surfing hoping to see some basketball and all I see are commercials, many studio analysts talking and tidbits of college basketball.

I’ve seen maybe two seconds of 12 GMC commercials before I flip the channel. Na Na Na Na......
go cyclones, beat ohio!
Iona playing Carolina tough so far. 27-27, 6.5 minutes left in first half
12 seeds win 3 of 4.
The curse of the 5 seed is back!

Hey, we finally get to see UCF in a real playoff system!
March 22nd, 2019 at 10:00 PM ^
Iona ballin' now. 35-27.

UCF is one crazy looking team, with a 7-6 giant and another 6-11 starter. Wow.
March 22nd, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
Let's try this again: I suspect Iona makes like 20% of their threes in the second half and UNC wins by like 14.

Even though Dawkins’ eligibility would have been exhausted by now here, but we really would benefit from a knockdown wing shooter coming off the bench. Last year we had two with D-Rob (who for intents and purposes played starter minutes) and Poole. This year we have Livers but on offense he’s playong the 5 a lot which leads to him not getting the amount of 3’s I’d like to see.
In all honesty Poole would be much better off the bench in a microwave role. If he was to come in and shoot spot up 3s, he would be much more effective

UCF and VCU should both be eliminated from the tournament-what an ugly display of "basketball"!!!

Refs in this ISU v OSU game are stealing possessions with some real shit calls.

Greg Oden. Do we feel sympathy? Or is that just life.

Greg Oden hasn’t aged at all in the past 14 years. Guess when you look 40 at age 18 that happens

Steven B. Smythe came to izzies defense today. Nothing to see here. Carry on. Spartans Will. What makes certain assholes bulltproof?
March 22nd, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
Damn it. Iowa State couldn't knock out the bucknuts.
March 22nd, 2019 at 11:58 PM ^
Iowa State ALWAYS loses early.

Wtf Clones....goddamn
March 23rd, 2019 at 12:02 AM ^
So you're telling me the only good teams in the Big 12 are Kansas and Texas Tech? I'm shocked
March 23rd, 2019 at 12:05 AM ^
So you think Minnesota is somehow all of a sudden a legit good team now?! Were we bad in 2012? This tournament is amazing but it isn't the barrier for what makes a team good/bad...shit happens. College kids.

B1G showed why they're the best conference in the country with a strong showing of 7-1 in the 1st round of NCAA Tournament. Minnesota, OSU and Iowa all pulled off an upset at 1st round where all are underdogs. B1G teams are battle tested after beating up on each other all year long and they're showing why they're all good teams.
