Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad. Not a good representation of the style. Boulevard usually delivers, but they missed with this one.

I've never had one fresh - I just had last years and it was pretty tasty.
October 24th, 2014 at 10:32 PM ^
It does taste good, but my first thought when trying a new quad is "how does this stack up to Rochefort 10?" My first thought isn't that it doesn't come close in flavor but that it simply isn't the same style. It doesn't taste like a quad. It's not complex enough, the mouth feel is wrong, and there's way too much cherry. I can see how a year of aging could be very beneficial to this beer.

There aren't too many quads that can stack up to Rochefort 10. BBQ is an odd beer in that they aged it randomly and cherries, so yeah. I've always found quads to be very pleasing in mouthfeel, so I would agree with you that the treatment that BBQ got made it "different" as far as your typical quad.

I really do think it has to be the cherries that throw me off because I find "Sixth Glass" (the supposed base beer) to be very good and fitting of the style.

I was going to go with a bourbon or whisky but my wife loves vodka and promised if I drank it with her I can treat her like it is our honeymoon all over again lol.

2012 Cab.
Damn fine for the price, particuallarly when it rolls on top of the Dale's Pale Ale 6-pack that went down real smooth while collecting firewood today.
An exceptional CO day today even by the higher weather standards of these parts.

Orval Trappist Ale. Celebrating a good week while I still can...

A local beer store here has four vintages of Orval Trappist. I've heard when you carry five that you get a certification from Orval. Good beer nonetheless.

PBR cans cuz I be a broke ma fucka right meow.

I found Schlitz Malt Liquor 16oz cans on blowout for $3.96 per 6 pack. If you've never seen the ads from the 70's - I beg of you to go watch them.
The flavor? It tasted like it was brewed with candy corn and pencil top erasers. But I had a good time chugging it while watching some classic ads.

Finishing a growler of Quinnan Falls from Bell's. Just listened to my high school alma mater, Mona Shores, blow out Muskegon 48-27 for the OK Black Conference championship.

Red Bull, Coffee and Diet Coke. I have a lot of studying to do tonight, so I'm stuck in the library with those tonight.
However, I did pick up a 6 pack of Expidition Stout earlier today, so I'm excited to have one of those when I finally get home.

Made it home, drinking an expidition stout (one of my favorites) and relistening to RTJ2. Can't complain.

yellow tail wine is a decent sam's club cheap-o wine, not fancy like you and your microbrews. i have toyed with the idea of growing grapes on the farm and we have an acceptable climate for it, but there is only so much time in the day.
how was the neighborhood soccer game, and please tell me you didn't spill our beer as you chased the kids down the street in rancho bernardo (or thereabouts)?

I'll drink to that.
